<<<< the Pastor's Page <<<< The Pastor’s Page Sacred Books- Dianetics As we continue our series on the sacred books of various religions, this month we will focus on Dianetics. While this book is not as popularly circulated as the Qu’ran, Book of Mormon, and New World Translation, it is the backbone of a religion which gets some attention in the media. The full name for this book is Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health. Who uses it? Dianetics is one of the main books of Scientology. Scientology is a very mysterious religion which keeps many of their teachings from Dianetics secret. They believe every person is an immortal “thetan” who has to confront our “engrams” in order to make ourselves more powerful. This process is known as “auditing” and allows some people to be become aliens after they die. Since the process of “auditing” and becoming more powerful is very expensive, this religion is more popular among celebrities. John Travolta, Tom Cruise, Nancy Cartwright, Kirstie Alley, and Lisa Marie Presley are just a few of the celebrities involved with this religion. However, the teachings of Dianetics and Scientology are present in several other forms. Scientology sponsors and teaches through the Narconon anti-drug program, the Criminon prison rehabilitation program, the Study Tech education methodology, and the organization The Way to Happiness. Scientology even has one of their large meeting places right here in St. Paul! When and how was it written? L. Ron Hubbard (1911-1986) was an author who primarily wrote science fiction and self-help resources. Hubbard himself admits that he was trying to earn a living and make money off of these books. After first publishing Dianetics as a self-help resource in 1950, he noticed its rising popularity. Hubbard quickly devoted his time to traveling and teaching people about this book. As he started making money from these seminars, Hubbard soon formed the religion of Scientology. Before Hubbard passed away in 1986, he made a net worth of approximately $600 million from Scientology. How do we understand this book as Christians? As Christians, we understand Dianetics to be a false book filled with the teachings of a strange religion. Dianetics and any of the other resources from Scientology are very dangerous to a person’s salvation. We are not alien beings who need to unlock our inner power. We are God’s baptized and loved children! God “has saved us and called us to a holy life-- not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace” (2 Timothy 1:9). While some of the self-help teachings of Dianetics will sound good to people’s ears, they are incorrect and are based on an unchristian understanding of the world. Anyone who has been deceived by the false teachings of Dianetics needs our prayers and our love as we show them the truth about life. As Jesus says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). If you have questions about this or any other sacred book, just let me know! -Pastor Tim The USED A BIT Sale at will be held at New Life May 9, 10, 11 Hours on Thursday and Friday are 9 am5 pm and Sat. 9-12 noon. Hebrews 10:24,25 tells us how: “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” It is so much easier to do the work Jesus has for us when we first meet together and encourage each other. That is what keeps us sharp and gives us the motivation to seek out those who don’t know Jesus— both the ones who are hurting and the ones who are President Lincoln had it right. • Benefits I Have Received from Scientology Auditing and Train
14 August 1997 Dear I have been asked to describe certain 'secular' benefits I have received from Scientology auditing and training that are not generally understood to be religious or spiritual in nature and how these have affected my community services activities. From my own schooldays I had a purpose to help other children gain a good education and to this end became a qualified teacher and pursued this profession until I married and had a family. I then came into contact with Scientology and through it gained greater self reliance and greater confidence in handling projects Also I was trained in the use of the study method developed by L Ron Hubbard and decided that I wanted to use it to help children to study better in school. With the help of a local West Indian businessman and other volunteers I started Riving supplementary teaching in the evening to disadvantaged children in Brixton , something which was especially wanted by West Indian parents in the drea. This project which we named B.E.S.T, ( the Basic Education and Supplementary Teaching .Association ) is now an authorised charity and continues to provide supplementary teaching and vacation projects in the Brixton area. More recently I have taken on another volunteer activity, that of bringing this study method to teachers in a country in Southern Africa. The education authorities in that country had become aware that the academic results being achieved in their schools were not sufficiently being translated into success in the professions and the workplace. L Ron Hubbard's Study Technology with its emphasis on fully understanding and being able to apply the data being studied was demonstrated in a pilot project and was shown to markedly increase student interest and comprehension and to greatly reduce truancy and its introduction was approved.

He can see how the subject progressed and so is able to see which are the highest levels of development. Not the least advantage in this is the defining of words and terms for each, when originally used, was defined, in most cases, with considerable exactitude, and one is not left with any misunderstoods.” —L. Ron Hubbard The first eight volumes of the Technical Bulletins of Dianetics and Scientology contain, exclusively, issues written by L. Ron Hubbard, thus providing a chronological time track of the development of Dianetics and Scientology. Volume IX, The Auditing Series, and Volume X, The Case Supervisor Series, contain Board Technical Bulletins that are part of the series. They are LRH data even though compiled or written by another. So that the time track of the subject may be studied in its entirety, all HCO Bs have been included, excluding only those upper level materials which will be found on courses to which they apply.

This study designed a model on study technology with the barriers that hinder students from studying effectively, the psychological reactions as well as the solutions to the barriers. The study is a position paper which directs the author to review some materials. The findings established that the major barriers to successful study are absence of mass, misunderstood words, obscurity and skipping gradient. In addition, the proffered solutions to the barriers include use of learning materials, use of dictionary, applying mnemonics and adopting a systematic learning style. The study concluded that with study technology, 100% performance is achievable. It was however recommended that students at all levels should assist themselves by adopting the study technology principles. Keywords: Study Technology, Tenacity, Snags, Learning, Mnemonics. 1. Introduction No society grows as expected without investing in their education system. A territorial army of sheep commanded by a lion could overthrow a militia of lion controlled by a sheep, this depict the need to value education.

Background Prisoner Roger Charles Heaton and the Church of Scientology have made an application for jUdicial review of this policy. Unes to take The applicants, having seen our witness statement and outline argument, have offered to withdraw their case, with no order as to costs. This means that the non-recognition policy being followed by prison service is reasonable .and secure. It has been our long-standing policy to withhold recognition of scientology as a religion. However, in order to meet the needs of individual prisoners, the Prison Service allows any prisoner registered as a Scientologist to have access to a representative of the Church of Scientology if he wishes to receive its ministry. This is the approach which was followed in the case of Mr Heaton. The Home Office considers that its policy respects the rights of Mr Heaton under the ECHR and is reasonable in view of concerns of which the department is aware about some of the practices of the Church.
