GOVERNOR'S MANSION LIBRARY -BIBLIOGRAPHY STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The Governor's Mansion Library Collection is a showcase for outstanding books and videos about Utah. It includes material describing the State's history, cultures, business and institutions. It contains reference books about Utah's environment: geology, botany, wildlife, etc. There are numerous biographies of famous Utahns. The collection has subcategories of fiction, poetry, and works for children. It also includes the writings of many distinguished Utah authors. In general, it tries to present a composite of information concerningthe beehive state.

The collection is designed to be representative rather than comprehensive, emphasizing general interest titles which are truly distinguished and those which occupy a position of importance or authority in the printed record of the state.

Books with statewide focus have been given priority: however, exceptional titles which address topics of local interest - such as the individual county histories published during the state's Centennialhave also been acquired.

The Utah Historical Quarterly, an on-going record of research into the full range of subjects related to Utah's past, has been chosen as representative of Utah's many fine periodical publications.

Access to and use of the collection will be at the discretion of the Governor's Mansion staff. A committee including representatives from the State Library Division, the Division of State History, the Salt Lake City Public Library, and the Marriott Library will select books for future addition to the collection. A bibliography is maintained and is available through the Utah State Library Division. That same bibliography, as well as a future acquisition list, can be found on the Internet at: http://pioneer.utah.gov/mansionlibrary.html

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

The Governor's Mansion Foundation Library Committee wishes to acknowledge the generous support of the following institutions and individuals who contributed to the restoration of the Governor's Mansion Library.

Utah Governors Mansion Library Bibliography

NON-FICTION[OTHER CATAGORIES I DONATION FORM

The Governor's Mansion Library Collection is a showcase for outstanding books and videos about Utah. The collection has subcategories of non-fiction, fiction, poetry, books for children, and local/county histories. It also includes the writings of many distinguished Utah authors. In general, the collection tries to present a composite of information concerning the beehive state.

The collection is designed to be representative rather than comprehensive, emphasizing general interest titles, which are truly distinguished, and which occupy a position of importance or authority in the printed record of the state.

Books that have statewide focus have been given priority. However, exceptional titles which address topics of local interest, such as the new individual county histories published during the state's Centennial, have also been acquired.

The Utah Historical Quarterly, an on-going record of research into the full range of subjects related to Utah's past, has been chosen as representative of Utah's many fine periodical publications.

Access to and use of the collection will be at the discretion of the Governor's Mansion staff.

A committee including representatives from the State Library Division, the Division of State History, the Salt Lake City Public Library, and the University of Utah Marriott Library will select books for future addition to the collection.

This list includes titles that were not acquired during the initial acquisition of materials for the mansion collection, but were included in the original bibliography of selected titles. The committee would be interested in receiving donations of these titles or in generous contributions of funds so that the missing titles might be purchased. Donations should be forwarded to the Utah Governor's Mansion Foundation. They should be clearly marked as a library donation and mailed to:

Utah Governor's Mansion Foundation

603 East South Temple

Salt Lake City, Utah 84102

A printed bibliography is maintained and is available through the Utah State Library Division. The bibliography, as well as the current acquisition list, is also available electronically on the Internet at:
