Martez Walker scored 18 of his 21 points in the first half, Sherron DorseyWalker added a careerhigh 20 points and Oakland routed Goshen, 10259, on Friday night to open the Great Alaska Shootout in Rochester.
Up 5630 at halftime, the Golden Grizzlies (30) opened the second half with a 91 run in which DorseyWalker hit a three and continued to pull away. All 11 Golden Grizzlies that played scored at least a field goal and freshman Isaiah Brock (12 points) had is first doubledigit game.

The Golden Grizzlies shot 50% from the floor (38 of 76) while holding NAIA member Goshen to 34%.

Illinois 89, Detroit Mercy 69
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Malcolm Hill made sure Illinois didn’t step off the gas pedal Friday night so that the Illini could took care of business against Detroit Mercy, 8969.
The senior, who scored 25 points, led his team to a quick start after the intermission, when his team was up, 3930, and it seemed like the Titans would close the gap even more.
“I’m always in an aggressive attack more, but this was one of those games where I needed to start strong in the second half,” Hill said.
Illinois (40) continued its strong start to the season in the opening game of the NIT Season TipOff tournament.
The Illini had little trouble scoring, shooting 27of 52 from the field and 8 of 19 from threepoint range. Friday marked the second straight game the Illini had difficulty shooting from the free throw line however, finishing 27of 38.
Tracy Abrams continued to have a strong return to basketball, scoring 15 points and finishing with four rebounds, including 2 of 3 from threepoint range.
Groce knows the importance a balanced offense can have on his team. “If you can have a balance of paint touches with that outside shooting, it puts opponents in dilemmas,” Groce said.
Detroit Mercy (12) had trouble keeping up with Illinois’ fast offensive pace from the start of the game. The Titans never led.
Josh McFolley and Jaleel Hogan both led the way with 16 points for a team that finished shooting 43 percent from the field and 24 percent from beyond the arc.
The Titans fell behind in most categories against the Illini, but Detroit Mercy head coach Bacari Alexander felt Illinois won the game down in the post, where the Illini won the rebound battle, 3929.
“They took advantage of those opportunities (in the post),” Alexander said. “(But) I like the direction this team is going in.”
UTEP 85, Western Michigan 75: Matt Willms scored 22 points in UTEP’s win over Western Michigan at the Charleston (S.C.) Classic. The Miners (21) will play for fifth place in the eightteam tournament Sunday. Tucker Haymond scored 20 points to lead Western Michigan (13). The Broncos will play for seventh place Sunday.
Eastern Michigan 76, GardnerWebb 68: Willie Mangum IV made six threepointers and scored 28 points to lead Eastern Michigan in a subregional game of the 2K Classic at Indianapolis. Mangum was 8for10 from the field. The Eagles (22) shot only 38.1% but were 47.1% from the arc (8for17). Jamaal Robateau finished with 26 points for GardnerWebb (03).
Notebook: Former Pistons player Mark Aguirre and former Pistons coach Doug Collins were named to the Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. Aguirre played for the Pistons in 198893 and was part of the Bad Boys championship teams of 198990. He played for DePaul in 197881. Collins coached the Pistons in 199598. He was a standout at Illinois State in 196770. Others named are Dominique Wilkins (Georgia, Atlanta Hawks), Hugh Durham (Georgia), Bob Boozer (Kansas State), Mike Montgomery (Long Beach State), Lionel Simmons (La Salle, Sacramento Kings) and Jamaal Wilkes (UCLA, Los Angles Lakers).
