Autumn 2015 www.carres.lincs.sch.uk Useful Dates: Foreword by Mr Law, Headteacher 11 November Year 13 Parents’ Evening We have enjoyed a tremendous and varied programme of activities over the last few weeks at school and it is a struggle to 17 November keep up with everything that’s been happening, none of which Bond and Beyond Concert 7pm would be possible if it were not for the extraordinary energy, 19 November enthusiasm and commitment of my colleagues, to whom I happily pay tribute. I am also hugely grateful for the exuberance, talent Psychology Conference and stamina of our students, as well as our parents who support the school in a myriad of different ways. Much of this is covered 20 November within this newsletter, but I would like to highlight the Sponsored GCSE PE Assessment at PGL Walk; it was great to see students and staff from both Carre’s and Kesteven and Sleaford High School enjoying the day 23 November together and raising money for worthy causes. The two schools Year 11 Mock Exams are working together more closely to enhance the education of the students at both schools now that they are the Robert Carre 24 November Trust. For example, there is to be a joint staff training day in Year 10 Parents’ Evening January, focusing upon the best practice in teaching and 9 December learning, a joint Drama production in March, and a great deal of Year 9 Options Evening planning being done as they work with St George’s to create the best curriculum offer for the Sleaford Joint Sixth Form.

SUPPORTINGSUPPORTING THETHE DEVELOPMENTDEVELOPMENT OFOF STRONGSTRONG GOVERNANCEGOVERNANCE FOR LINCOLNSHIRE VISION AND COMMITMENT We are committed to develop and improve the support available to strengthen the governance of Lincolnshire schools. Lincolnshire Teaching Schools Together (LTT), The Lincolnshire Learning Partnership (LLP), Lincolnshire County Council (LCC), Lincoln Anglican Diocese and the National Leaders of Governance (NLG) and Local Leaders of Governance (LLG) have all worked together to produce what we believe to be a comprehensive and coherent support mechanism for governance. • Christmas Arrives at Ruskin
Term 2 2018/2019 Community and SMSC A message from the Headteacher... If ever there was a term that highlighted one of our values, generosity, it has been this term. From the hard-work of staff who are always prepared to offer extra enrichment to ensure that our students learn beyond the curriculum and extend their curiosity and understanding of the world around them, to the students whose community mindedness and sense of kindness towards others is apparent in their generous charity work and the support they show each other. I’m always incredibly proud of the students collective thoughtfulness, seen in the way they support the local food bank, rotary appeals and raising awareness, such as the Orangutan Foundation which may be further afield but has touched their consciousness. I must specifically mention Logan and Joe, who have both, in their own ways, provided huge support to other young people in our community and act as superb role models to those around them. At this time of year, I am also struck by the sense of family at Ruskin. From the incredibly humbling sight of the absolute silence and respect shown by 1350 young people who gathered together on Remembrance day, to the beauty of the Christmas church service and the fun and joy of the House singing competition, Ruskin students and staff really do know how to mark an occasion with style, thoughtfulness and shared spirit. Staff and students work hard in the Academy, but it is the kindness, spirit, courage and sense of shared purpose that makes Ruskin.

  • The Business of School Improvement
the business of school improvement ACHIEVEMENT LANDSCAPE PICTURES: KEY STAGE 4 2018 At the end of each academic year, for the past eleven years, ECARDA has used the published national datasets to produce pictures of school achievement. The attached selection shows the achievement of schools in Lincolnshire and the Humber sub- region, including Doncaster, at the end of Key Stage 4. On one set of graphs, the horizontal axis refers to “attainment” and, since 2016, uses the published attainment 8 measure. On the other set, the horizontal axis refers to KS4 FSM. The vertical axis refers to “progress” and, since 2016, uses the published progress 8 measure. For 2018, we have used the adjusted progress 8 measure, which mitigates extreme effects. The labels in each of the chart quadrants are no more than indicators: Higher-than-average attainment with higher-than-average progress is indicated as accomplishing; Lower-than- average-attainment with higher-than-average progress is indicated as striving; Lower-than- average-progress with higher-than-average attainment is indicated as cruising; Lower-than- average attainment with lower-than-average progress is indicated as struggling. Those clustered around the intersection of the axes may be described as “in line with national averages”. Discounting those clustered around the centre/average, the proportion of schools or pupils which fall into each of these categories makes for an interesting comparison across local authority areas. See the ECARDA website for a presentation of this type of analysis in 2016. The final three pictures show the achievement landscape of all local authorities across the country with differing labelling to highlight differing characteristics.
