Cahuachi Pyramid CComposed largely of rock formations and covering an estimated area of 0.12 km2, these islands are an important sanctuary for marine fauna like the guanay guano bird, the blue-footed booby and the tendril. Other notable species include Humboldt Penguins and two varieties of seals (fur seals and sea lions), amongst other mammals. These islands are accessible from the resort town of Paracas (near Pisco) by tour boat which typically lasts 2 hours. During the visits it is not uncommon for the sea lions to approach the tourist boats and make spectacles for the visiting tourists. The sea lions are also responsible for a unique audio spectacle with their wolf-pack cries that echoes around the Ballestas and creates an effect of a 360 degree surrounding choir. On the way to the islands, on the Paracas Peninsula, visitors will notice El Candelabro, a large-scale Geoglyph that may have served as a beacon to mariners. The mystery as to the origins of this particular Geoglyph is ongoing with much speculation. The visit to the Ballestas Islands is, from an ecotourism point of view, probably the best known along the Peruvian coast..

However, the intensification of human activities and the strong fishing pressure jeopardize the functioning of these large ecosystems. The Humboldt current large marine ecosystem (HCLME) supports the largest monospecific fishery of the world (i.e., anchoveta) and biodiversity of high conservation value. The HCLME covers about 261.9 million hectares along the coasts of Peru and Chile. According to the analysis of the evaluation programme of transboundary waters assessment programme (TWAP), the HCLME has a high level of risk. Previously, with the support of the GEF, a transboundary diagnostic analysis (TDA) was carried out and a strategic action programme (SAP) was prepared, which was signed by both countries in 2016.

RULES 1.1. The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2013-2016. 1.2. No national prescriptions will apply. 1.3. Racing rule G1.1(b) is deleted. National letters will not be required. 1.4. English will be the official language. If there is a conflict between languages, the English text will take precedence. 2. BOATS 2.1. Competitors may use charter boats provided by the organizing authority or use their own boats. 2.2. Sail assignment: “2015 Sunfish Worlds Sails” are being provided. 2.3. Charter Boats will be allocated according to the following availability: 2.3.1. Up to 18 new charter boats (please see attached Addendum 1 for equipment supplied and allowances for personal effects). 2.3.2. Up to 40 used 2010-2014 charter boats in excellent conditions (please see attached Addendum 1 for equipment supplied and allowances for personal effects). The organizing authority will reserve one charter boat per every 5 qualifying spots per nation (NSCA) as allocated by ISCA. Each NSCA will have up to July 31st, 2015 to reserve and pay for charter boats. NSCA willing to secure more charter boats (up to the NSCA limit) shall pay the charter fee to register on a wait list that will be used after the above deadline.
