Testimonial: ‘Jules and Jo, and all at Welsh Property Services were simply amazing when buying a property from them. We met Jules when first viewing the property, and although not meeting her again before completion - we live 5 hours away - it felt like we were mak- ing this big purchase through a friend! Their communication was fantastic, it was regular, prompt, proactive and clear, and when Jules wasn't available Jo seamlessly stepped in - dream team!

In addition, they went above and beyond anything I've even experienced, or even expect, from an estate agents, in the way they sup- ported the sale transaction and making sure the property was in a good state for when we were arriving post completion, and went out of their way to coordinate tradesman for us.

Buying a property is never easy but I can honestly say they made us feel special and supported. It was an absolute pleasure and if look- ing for an additional property/home in Wales we'll check the WPS website first.. And may even wait until they have what we want!’ Simon and Jacqueline July 2019

Sibrydion 9 Re-homing Racehorses - For a Life Past The Post By Ian Cross

In Spring and early Summer, the general public in Britain get two chances to get involved in the Sport of Kings. For many, this is the only time they ever take any interest in horse racing and it may be the only time they ever place a bet. In April the Grand National is run at Aintree over famous fences such as Becher’s Brook and the Chair. In June, it is the turn of flat racing to take centre stage when the RoR estimates that on average around 7,000 horses Derby is run over the famous circuit at Epsom. My partner Sally and I have recently witnessed first hand how the process may follow through in reality. It should also act as reminder to all of us that horses are vulnerable at times and it is not always the ‘glamorous’ life in horse racing they enjoy. We have recently taken on our own ex-racer whose life after racing had not been entirely straightforward and we are now trying to give her the best life she can have.

We decided to take this monumental decision after careful consideration. Our path to owning a horse has probably been pretty unusual and complicated by any standard. Sibrydion 31 There are 13 Leisure Centres in this county! When Gwynedd Council announced their plans to close the swimming pool in Harlech ten years ago, the community of Ardudwy protested loud and clear, and after a brave struggle, HAMDDEN HARLECH ARDUDWY LEISURE was born. We are now a very successful centre, with a climbing wall and a thriving poolside cafe as well as the swimming pool. We have secured national curriculum swimming lessons for our local primary schools and offer swimming, climbing and kayaking to locals and tourists alike. Excellent meals and snacks are served in the cafe, which also hosts occasional talks and meetings, monthly BINGO sessions and other events. The Roc Ardudwy team of volunteers also organise much appreciated pop concerts in Harlech’s Neuadd Goffa or in the Castle, with recent ABBA and Queen tribute bands playing to sell out audiences. Sadly, we are excluded from the county’s new BYW’N IACH grouping, but we really would appreciate a mention in the County’s publicity. HAL serves the whole Ardudwy Coast, including Barmouth, and we do all pay our council tax... chwarae teg... There are 13 leisure centres in this county! Find us at www.harlechardudwyleisure.org.uk

Summer blooms By Lisa Cunningham-Allsop – Camlan Garden Centre, Dinas Mawddwy.

It’s been a bit of an inconsistent year for weather so far, with June having lower than average temperatures and in some parts of Wales double the usual rainfall. Even some of the most experienced growers have struggled with their vegetables! I had heard that soil temperatures were cooler than expected which answers why runner beans and tomatoes were the hardest hit: we sold more runner bean plants this year than I thought possible! July, however, saw a return to some proper summer temperatures, if not every day.

August: Make sure you take the time to deadhead flowers, you will be rewarded with repeat flowering until the end of the season: ‘Regular deadheading directs energy into stronger growth and more flowers. Once the flowers are pollinated; seed will die without watering, although some are more heads, pods or capsules form at the expense of resilient than others they will all eventually die. We further growth and flower development.’ (RHS sell water retention crystals for pots and baskets Online) which will help reduce the risk. Don’t forget to water pots and baskets regularly, September: This is the month to reap the rewards they are always at risk of drying out even if there of your vegetable and fruit growing! It’s also time is rain, as abundant leaves shelter the pot surface to be thinking ahead for next year and getting in and are likely to direct any water away. I get a lot early sowings of your favourite plants: of requests for plants that won’t die in pots if they ‘Many seed mixes can be sown in either the spring aren’t watered for a while: my answer is all plants or the autumn, but many expect there to be less benefit to sowing in the autumn. Although sowing in the spring is often favoured there are many benefits to sowing in the autumn, and it is now becoming a more recognised and accepted practice. It is now believed that the optimum sowing time for seeds is between August and the end of September, since this is when most seeds tend to shed naturally.’ (BritishFlora.co.uk) 50 Sibrydion With the cooler air temperatures and increase in rainfall September can bring, but with the soil is still warm, it’s the perfect time to plant herbaceous perennials and small shrubs into the borders, giving them time to take root firmly before winter. You can also lift and divide established perennials now and use a bone meal fertiliser to give them a boost. Lawns will benefit from a high in potassium and low in nitrogen feed; or alternatively turn Summer part of your lawn into a wildflower meadow to encourage biodiversity next year! Wyndrush Wild are wildflower specialists in Pembrokeshire who can advise you on the best mix of welsh blooms wildflowers for your soil type and location. (wyndrushwild.co.uk) Our garden centre shop has a wide range of equipment and resources, and we are happy to order items in if we don’t have them. The range of plants is always changing and new stock arriving weekly so why not pop in and have a look? You can find us on Facebook and Twitter @camlandinas and our website is www.camlan.cymru
