Martín: Introduction. Typescript of the Second Origin The career of Catalan writer Manuel de Pedrolo (1918-1990) was conditioned by his intention to become “a whole literature” (Coca 19), rather than just a writer, during a historical period when Francisco Franco’s dictatorial regime (1939-1975) severely repressed private and public communication in Catalan. Pedrolo certainly proposed in his fiction “a radical inversion of the repressive status quo” (Colmeiro 60) and managed “to make on his own the most impressive act of presence which a literature officially in state of extinction could make” (Triadú 13). Like many other Catalan writers, Pedrolo was limited by a fierce linguistic and literary censorship, to which he reacted with astounding resilience. -

Desde entonces, el editor Barral se convierte en el promotor principal del surgimiento y desarrollo del boom latinoamericano y, por consiguiente, en pieza clave para el fortalecimiento de las relaciones editoriales y literarias entre América Latina y España. Palabras clave: Boom, Barral, Barcelona, narrativa, Goytisolo Abstract: In the 1960s Carlos Barral's small publishing house in Barcelona affords the Peruvian Vargas Llosa the opportunity to release his first novel. From then onwards, C. Barral turns into the main developer for the Latin-American Boom’s eventual success. Sólo desde esta atención al matiz y al rico catálo- go de lo español puede, todavía hoy, entenderse una vida cuya creatividad y cuyas prácticas apenas puede abordar la tradicional clasificación de saberes y disciplinas. Si el postestructuralismo y la deconstrucción cuestionaron la parcialidad de sus en- foques, son los estudios culturales los que quisieron subsanarla, generando espacios de mediación y contribuyendo a consolidar un campo interdisciplinario dentro del cual superar las dicotomías clásicas, mientras se difunden discursos críticos con dis- tintas y más oportunas oposiciones: hegemonía frente a subalternidad; lo global fren- te a lo local; lo autóctono frente a lo migrante. Desde esta perspectiva podrán some- terse a mejor análisis los complejos procesos culturales que derivan de los desafíos impuestos por la globalización y los movimientos de migración que se han dado en todos los órdenes a finales del siglo XX y principios del XXI. -
La Literatura Latinoamericana En Madrid Y Barcelona
La invasión de la metrópoli: la literatura latinoamericana en Madrid y Barcelona Pablo Sánchez n un artículo de 1927, el novelista cubano Alejo Carpentier, Eentonces todavía poco conocido, planteaba con una metáfora afectiva el mayor peligro, a su juicio, de las relaciones culturales entre España y Latinoamérica: “creo deplorable que se intente transformar un afecto fraternal en incesto” (1998: 97). Carpentier trataba de se- parar claramente las dos orillas del Atlántico en el terreno cultural y evitar cualquier nueva subordinación a la metrópoli. En realidad, ni siquiera el incesto era la metáfora sexual más exacta para representar la inquietud que le motivó a redactar el texto al que hago referen- cia; los elementos de dominio y poder y la conquista de una ansiada madurez posedípica frente a la madre patria parecen más ajustados al caso. La reacción de Carpentier venía a denunciar rotundamente las pretensiones de algunos intelectuales de Madrid de proponer a la capital de España como centro de la cultura hispánica, desplazando a un segundo plano el tradicional encanto sensual y vanguardista de París. De la capital francesa, espacio de culto para los escritores latinoamericanos desde finales del siglo XIX, procedían las principa- les novedades estéticas, y el propio Carpentier coincidió con Miguel Ángel Asturias en los años tan impactantes del surrealismo francés. 5 Minority Literatures in the Global Scene Writers In Between Languages: This book is a collection of the contributions made by Basque Writers In Between Languages: writers and American and European academics to the internatio- nal symposium, “Writers in Between Languages: Minority Lite- ratures in the Global Scene,” held May 15–17, 2008 at the Center Minority Literatures in the Global Scene for Basque Studies, University of Nevada, Reno, in the United States. Our symposium attempted to think about the consequen- ces of bilingualism for writ ers in a minority language, like Basque, EDITED BY in that they are located in that “in-between” of different cultural Mari Jose Olaziregi and identity communities and subjected to constant exchange and recognition of differences. One could say that practically all the current 800,000 Basque-speakers or euskaldunak who live on both sides of the Pyrenees in Spain and France are bilingual. And that this bilingualism is formed in conjunction with such widely spoken languages as Spanish and such prestigious languages in literary circles as French; lan guages that, in turn, have been displaced by the enormously central and legitimizing place that English occupies in the current global framework. The sympo- sium attempted, moreover, to debate the consequences implied by linguistic extra-territorialization for many authors in a minority language, the realignment implied by the hegemony of Eng lish for E all other literatures, and the options open to a minority author to DIT E get their voice heard in the World Republic of Letters. Together D BY with the above themes, certain aspects of the academic study of a minority literature such as that of Basque completed the list of Mari Jose subjects we intended to examine. -
