FATHERS COLLABORATIVE COUNCIL OF WESTERN RESOURCE GUIDE FATHERS...We Matter

ames E. Faust said, “Nobel fatherhood gives us a glimpse of the Divine.” This is the best statement that I have ever heard on the subject. What does this mean, noble fatherhood? I believe it means that being a father is indeed a vocation in God’s service, and should be Jdone with serious and fierce determination, compassion, empathy and love. This is not to say that mistakes won’t be made, and that as fathers, we don’t struggle and stumble at times; but it is to say that we will do all of these things with strength, courage, taking nothing about the responsibilities of fatherhood frivolously or lightly. There is deep, profound love and satisfaction that is gained from wearing the title of father upon one’s heart.

Fathers are ordinary men turned by love into heroes, adventurers and story-tellers. This, in and of itself, is nothing less than a divine gift and responsibility. A man doesn’t need to be flawless to be a perfect father – quite the opposite – the flawlessness is in his commitment to his family. And so it is with these words I am honored and privileged to share this resource guide with the fathers of my communities. I hope it is helpful to you on your journey as a father.

Very Sincerely, Office – (412) 665-5502 100 Sheridan Square, 3rd Floor Pittsburgh, PA 15206 Ed Gainey State Representative Harrisburg Office – (717) 783-1017 24th Legislative District – Allegheny County 116 B East Wing, PO Box 202024 The Pennsylvania House of Representatives Harrisburg, PA 17120-2024
