Thin White Line Thin Blue line represents the thin line Police Officers walk daily between life and death. The Thin Blue line represents the police officer role of separating the good from the bad while creating order from chaos. The Thin Blue line on black is a memorial or a connection or memory between Officers killed in the line of Duty and those who continue with their duties in the present. They are forced to face their own fears and grasp for every ounce of courage to Thin White Line the necessary task. The Thin Red Line originally came Thin White Line as a description used to refer to an outgunned military unit holding firm against attack. The Thin White Line represents emergency medical services. The thin white line differs from other thin lines in that the background is blue instead of black, with a white line crossing horizontally through the middle. Another version would be black background with white line. Some consider the Thin Green Line representing military Thin White Line well. The Thin Gold Line is another version, which represents dispatchers. Product artworks are copyrighted properties of their respective brands. There are many opinions on the Thin Lines and their meanings. The Thin White Line - John Stirling It premiered on the Fox network on February 14, When a spate of killings seems to echo that of a man currently incarcerated, Millennium Group consultant Frank Black Lance Henriksen must confront the specter of his past and face a murderer who nearly took a younger Black's life. The episode was viewed by approximately 6. Anne Rothenburg answers a knock on her front door. When she speaks to the man waiting there, he hears something else entirely; believing that she Thin White Line giving her consent to be murdered, Thin White Line attacks her. Rothenburg is brought in on a stretcher by paramedics. Black notices a peculiar slash across her palm, and glances down at his own, which bears a scar matching the woman's cut exactly. Rothenburg then dies of her injuries. Her husband found her when he came home, assuming that she had surprised a burglar. Elsewhere, her attacker shoots the clerk Thin White Line a liquor store, again hearing the victim give permission to be killed. Black and Bletcher review security camera footage of the crime, which leads to them discovering half a playing card—the Jack of Spades—at the scene. Rothenburg's home is searched and the other half is found there. Hance was a disturbed Vietnam War veteran who marked his kills with half a playing card, a custom he picked up during his tours of duty. Black was one of a number of Federal Bureau of Investigation agents who responded to an anonymous tip, leading them to Hance's location— however, the tip was called in by Hance himself and the raid became an ambush. Three agents were killed, and Black was cornered by Hance, who cut open his palm and nearly took Black's life before the young Black was able to overpower and arrest him. Black visits Hance in prison, and upon speaking to Hance, realizes that Tyler believes himself Hance's reincarnation, aspiring to follow his methods exactly. Meanwhile, Tyler calls the police and leaves an anonymous tip, telling them that the liquor store murderer is hiding in an abandoned building. Black accompanies a SWAT team encircling the building, but the officers come under sniper fire from a construction site across the street. Black and Bletcher separate as they search for Tyler, who gets the drop on Black. Black disarms Tyler, attempting to talk him into surrendering. Tyler empties a handgun at Black, but misses; when Bletcher confronts him, Tyler points the gun and Bletcher instinctively shoots and kills him. The relationship between the characters of Jacob Tyler and Richard Allen Hance seems to have been based on that of Lawrence Bittaker and Roy Norristwo convicts whose time in prison together formed Thin White Line basis of a partnership that saw them torture and Thin White Line several young women in Mullin claimed that their last words were often "I understand". Scott Heindl, who portrayed Jacob Tyler, would later return in an unrelated role in the second season episode " A Room with No View ", [11] and Thin White Line third season episode " Antipas ". The Thin White Line "expect Thin White Line mercy" found on the playing cards is the motto of that series' United States Marine Corps squadron, while the individual cards used—the Jack of Spades, King of Clubs and Queen of Hearts—mirror the call signs used by individual marines. This represented 6. Thin White Line episode received positive reviews from critics. The A. Gibron noted that "with a stellar final act and a closing scene that has a great deal of Thin White Line in a very restrained manner, this is an excellent installment [ sic ]". Shearman compared the episode to both The Silence of the Lambs and the works of film director Quentin Tarantinoand felt that the interrogation scene between Black and Hance was "maybe the single best scene in the whole season". From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. But the thing MOVES, and when an episode rolls by as quickly as this one does, all sorts of objections get washed away by the momentum. David Nutteret al. FICTION/ANTHOLOGY “Existentialism was never so fun. Makes me wish I could die, too!” — Cory Doctorow THE MACHINE COULD TELL, FROM JUST A SAMPLE OF YOUR BLOOD, HOW YOU WERE GOING TO DIE. It didn’t give you the date and it didn’t give you specifics. It just spat out a sliver of paper upon which were printed, in careful block letters, the words DROWNED or CANCER or OLD AGE or CHOKED ON A HANDFUL OF POPCORN. And it was frustratingly vague in its predictions: dark, and seemingly delighting in the ambiguities of language. OLD AGE, it had already turned out, could mean either dying of natural causes, or shot by a bedridden man in a botched home invasion. The machine captured that old-world sense of irony in death — you can know how it’s going to happen, but you’ll still be surprised when it does. We tested it before announcing it to the world, but testing took time — too much, since we had to wait for people to die. After four years had gone by and three people died as the machine predicted, we shipped it out the door. There were now machines in every doctor’s office and in booths at the mall. You could pay someone or you could probably get it done for free, but the result was the same no matter what machine you went to. • How Much the Mediterranean Is Worth
A Room with a View — A Valuation of the Mediterranean Sea View Abstract Aesthetic view is one of the ecosystem services of the Mediterranean Sea which can be estimated using price differences in the hotel market. Hotels situated on the Mediterranean Sea charge higher prices for a room with a sea view than for a room without it. The value of this view in 10 major Mediterranean regions was estimated in this paper using a hedonic price method. Data on 2,819 hotel rooms in high season and 2,406 rooms in the low season were collected from Booking.com and fixed effects regression was used to estimate the model coefficients. Hotel room prices were found to be higher by about 10% for a room with a view than for one with no view specification. No significant difference was found between regions or season. These findings lend support to the fact that the view of the Mediterranean is equally valued in all regions. Keywords: Sea view, Mediterranean, Hedonic prices, Fixed effects regression 1 ―The Signora has no business to do it,‖ said Miss Bartlett, ―no business at all. She promised us south rooms with a view close together, instead of which here are north rooms, looking into a courtyard, and a long way apart. Oh, Lucy!‖ - A Room with a View by E.M. Forster. Introduction When a hotel manager offers a room with a view for a higher price than a room without a view, she is actually selling something she does not own to a tourist who can only observe it from the privacy of his room.
