The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2016 to Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos "for his resolute efforts to bring the country's more than 50-ye- ar-long civil war to an end, a war that has cost the lives of at least 220,000 Colombians and displaced close to six million people". The laureate gives a press conference at the Norwegian Nobel Institute on 9th December at 13.00. The Peace Prize Ceremo- ny takes place in Oslo City Hall at 13.00 on 10th December, and is the highlight of the program. During the award ceremony on 10th December, the laureate will deliver his Nobel Peace Lecture. (Attendance by invitation only). There is a traditional torchlight parade in the evening of 10th December in honor of the laureate, ending in front of the Grand Hotel where the laureate usually greets the parade from the balcony. On the evening of 11th December, Norwegian and international artists will perform at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in honour of this year's laureate. The event starts at Jernbanetorget by Oslo Central Station at 5.30 pm with music and appeals, before the procession heads towards Grand Hotel at approximately 6.15 pm. Finnes Christmas market at Blå Saturdays and Sundays before Christmas you can visit the Christmas market around "Blå" at Grünerløkka. Here you can find knit wear, jewellery, ceramics, glass, wool, clothes, toys, paintings, bags etc. The rest of the year there is a Sunday market in the same place. Christmas concert: Silent Night - Holy Night, At different locations, th7 – 23rd December The concert "Silent Night - Holy Night" has toured Norway during Advent for almost 30 years, spreading the Christmas spirit in churches across the country. This year's performers are Alexander Rybak, Rune Larsen, Hans Petter Moen, Maria Haukaas Mittet and Marian Aas Hansen. Address: Vogts gate 64 Christmas with Nordic Tenors, Oslo Konserthus, 8th December at 19.00 The acclaimed trio Nordic Tenors holds a Christmas concert full of Christmas spirit and warm humour. The concert programme contains everything from traditional Norwegian Christmas songs in new arrangements to American schlagers, interspersed with a few musical Christmas surprises. They are accompanied by pianist Øystein Lund Olafsen. Nordic Tenors consists of Jan Tore Saltnes, Roald Haarr, and Sveingung Hølmebakk. Click here to buy tickets. Since they started out in 1998 they have handled The Great American Songbook with creativity and finesse, with praise from those who didn't even know they liked jazz to connoisseurs. Hambros plass 5 Photo: Egil Hansen Christmas Concert: Nordic Voices, Svenska Margaretakyrkan, 9th December at 19.30 Nordic Voices is a six-voice acappella vocal ensemble from Oslo, Norway. They have gained a reputation as one of the leading vocal ensembles in its genre in the world. Their Christmas concert this year focuses on vocal experimentation, folk songs and Gregorian songs, in addition to music by Lasse Thoresen and Thomas Luis de Victoria. Click here to buy tickets.
