Both competitions drew entries from all around South Africa, including IEB and state schools. Emma's artwork submission is entitled 'Preservation'. It is a portrait of her Grandmother and is based on the theme of 'a journey'. Here is Emma, with her drawing. Well done, Emma! We are so inspired by your talent. The group enjoyed a djembe drumming session in our Junior Primary followed by a lively chat session with some our Grade 11 girls in the Forum. The interac- tion was en- joyed by both groups and we are hoping to continue some of the con- versations at our upcoming girl.talk@dgc summit. P3 [email protected] 26 July 2019 www.dgc.co.za Meet our Team Norman Ndelu - Musgrave Road Security Arriving at Durban Girls’ College Musgrave Road entrance in the mornings (Mondays to Thursdays), we are greeted by the friendly face of Norman Ndelu. Norman has been employed by Fidelity ADT since 2005 and he has worked as a security guard at Durban Girls’ College since 2013. Norman comes from the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal and he is engaged to Sbongile Bam. He has a daughter, Anele, and a son, Kwanele. He is passionate about rugby and soccer. During exam times, the girls are always greeted by Norman with a very cheerful ‘good luck’. Norman says that he loves working at DGC and especially enjoys the interaction with the girls, parents and staff. Thank you, Norman, for all you do to keep us safe. We appreciate you! From our Chaplain Michelle Edgcumbe Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously. Isaiah 55:5 In line with the theme of grace, which we spoke about in the first assembly of Term 3, this passage from Isaiah struck me. This rendering made me stop for a time to consider the nature of God's forgiveness. We know that at times our own forgiveness can be grudging. We often give it conditionally or we take it back. We ask for it, or we expect it, but find it so challenging when others ask for it from us. God is not like us. We presume his forgiveness is like ours - that he doesn't really want to give it, that good deeds sort of persuade him to give more of it, and that he's just waiting to remove it. But what is true of God in Isaiah's time, is true of him in ours - he calls people to come to him to find generous forgiveness. Not the grudging, temporary or selfishly motivated kind. Generous forgiveness. What a relief, and what a challenge to our own hearts.
