Details

Situated on a small headland at the mouth of Loch Roag, Taigh nan Eilean enjoys outstanding views of the surrounding mountains and islands. The famous beaches of Cliff, Reef and Valtos are just a few minutes drive away whilst, in the summer, the small nearby harbour of Miavaig is a favourite for visiting yachts and provides the ideal base for sea-safaris and fishing trips. Sea fishing trips can be arranged from here and when catch is landed it is possible to buy freshly caught lobster and hand dived scallops from the harbour.

Taigh nan Eilean is a luxury 4 star cottage and is suitable for disabled visitors. The cottage has been awarded 4 stars by the Scottish Tourist Board and Disabled Class 1. There are panoramic views through the large floor to ceiling windows in the main living area from where you can see the sea loch, mountains and islands. Designed for your comfort and relaxation, the natural wood floors, peat burning stove and Harris Tweed fabrics make Taigh nan Eilean a warm and welcoming destination for both summer holidays and winter breaks. It's a wonderful place to return to after a day's exploration, or from lazing on one of the many world class sandy beaches; however, it is also a place to stay in and relax, without moving a muscle, just soaking in the atmosphere and basking in the surrounding beauty.

Uig forms part of what is recognised as one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Hebrides and is one of the thirteen areas that make up the Hebridean Island of Lewis. This stunning backdrop will provide you with the perfect base from which to explore these historic islands including Great Bernera and the Isle of Harris. The area is rich in historical sites going back to the Bronze Age or even further. Much research has been done into the recent history (last 200 years) and there is an excellent visitor centre dedicated to the history of the islands.

The Uig sands are the most spectacular and extensive beaches in the whole of the Hebrides; rivaled only by the famous sands of Luskentyre, in Harris, which are within an easy drive.

The cottage is situated on a fifteen acre croft in the village of Uigen, which is part of the community-owned Bhaltos peninsula; it's in the heart of Uig! Added to the spectacular scenery surrounding this self-catering cottage is a small 'fold' of Highland Cattle and Black Faced Sheep who will watch you with the same curiosity you view them. These gentle creatures graze in the fields surrounding the cottage.

The Hebrides offer a vast amount to see and do with spectacular archaeology, historic sites, craft shops, Harris Tweed outlets, art galleries, museums and much more. However, first and foremost the unspoilt dramatic and always stunning natural environment is the key to the enjoyment of these fabulous islands.
