Fear Itself: Avengers Academy Academy. Avengers Academy 15 Review. The Academy recruits are sent to war. Event tie-ins can sometimes be the bane of relatively self-contained Fear Itself: Avengers Academy like Avengers Academy. But not in the case of Fear Itself. Christos Gage uses the framework of Fear Itself to craft one of his strongest issues yet. For once, fear becomes a palpable story element as the students and their teachers are forced to confront their deepest fears in a world gone mad. Fear Itself isn't really the point in this arc. It merely offers that big moment where our young heroes are called forth to face their first real trial by fire. The prevailing question voiced by Giant-Man, , and the students themselves is whether they're truly ready for what lies in store. It's a gripping question, and the sense of danger and unease that pervades the issue ensures readers won't be able to put it down. Gage has done an excellent job making us care for these young heroes over the past year and change. Now that build-up pays off as they contend with insane gods and Nazi death machines. The art is subtly adjusted in this issue to reflect the darker Fear Itself: Avengers Academy. I was particularly impressed by Scott Hanna's inking, as it brings Fear Itself: Avengers Academy certain sinister and dramatic quality to the close-up shots. Tom Raney's faces aren't always consistent, as if the characters are still caught in their age-defying battle with , but in general his storytelling is excellent. With the whole creative team firing on all cylinders, Avengers Academy may just be the strongest of the Fear Itself tie-ins alongside Journey Into Mystery. Six of these teens are now placed in a program called the Avengers Academy located in the Infinite , headed by Henry Pymwith TigraJusticeSpeedballand Quicksilver as teachers. Hank Pym finds a way to bring his late wife the Wasp back to life. But after some convincing and a battle with , he decides against it because the risks are too great. He adopts his old Giant-Man persona as a way of letting go and moving on. After video of the assaulting Tigra goes viralHazmat, Veil and Striker track down Hood, now depowered, and torture him. Veil records the incident and the students upload the video in the same manner as Tigra's assault. Back at the academy, Henry Pym Fear Itself: Avengers Academy tells the students that he has failed to prepare them for such a fight and they will train harder as a result. The students meet another young super-powered person that was manipulated by Norman Osborn named Jeremy Briggs. Since Osborn's defeat, Briggs has managed to become a billionaire. He shows the students several others teens tortured by Osborn, some of which have decided to use their powers to help people directly. Fear Itself: Avengers Academy, when reveals that Briggs was telling lies and was using the teens for his own purposes, they attacked him. Briggs overpowers the students but ultimately lets them be taken out of his building by security stating that he could kill them if he wishes, Fear Itself: Avengers Academy not today. Tigra and the students are dispatched to Washington DC to help fight Skadi and her mechanized soldiers. The students use the Pym Particle generators to grow out of the subatomic underspace where the Fear Itself: Avengers Academy resides. However Greithoth sabotages the generators causing the academy to grow with them, which threatens to Fear Itself: Avengers Academy an entire city if it grows to Earthspace. Once the investigation continues, Pym concludes that Jocasta's attacker must have come from outside the Academy possibly from another era or dimension. One of these events is "murdering half the Academy"; to facilitate this, Reptil begins to lead students and faculty to Hybrid one by one so that he may feed off of their powers. Briggs then appears to recruit other students to his side but after an intense standoff the two sides come to a peaceful resolution; allowing the students to decide for themselves and to work together when necessary. Shortly after, Striker holds a press conference to publicly announce his coming out. The use this as an opportunity to sneak onto the campus to convince Pym to help them find Old Lacewho was banished to a secret dimension. After they teleport to a prehistoric dimension and find , reveals that Pym intends to send the youngest Runaways to child protective services. During the " Avengers vs. X-Men " storyline, the Avengers bring the children left behind by the X-Men following the battle on to the Avengers Academy to keep them from interfering in the war. organizes a sports competition between the Academy students and the mutants to ease tensions between the groups but after a while the mutants choose to exclude themselves. Meanwhile, breaks out of the holding cell that placed him in inside the Academy. Meanwhile, X tries to figure out whether she should align herself with her former friends from Utopia or her current friends at the Avengers Academy. After talking to Finesseshe witnesses the young mutants from Utopia now joined by RicochetWiz Kid and Hollow confronting the Academy students. When Juston Seyfert and his try to stop the young mutants, X attacks the robot and forces it to retreat, deciding that the young mutants should not be deprived of their free Fear Itself: Avengers Academy to leave the Academy if they want. Shaw then suddenly appears in front of the teenagers. After both sides agree that the mutant children shouldn't be confined against their will, Tigra suggests to fake a fight in order to justify their escape in front of the cameras at the Academy. In the laboratory, the depowered students defeat Coat of Arms, just as Hazmat, Mettle, Striker, and Veil arrive with the antidote.
