Sunday 24 November RNCM Strings Day Inspired by Folk

/rncmvoice /rncmlive Box Office 0161 907 5555 www.rncm.ac.uk/stringsday Welcome…

The RNCM School of Strings is delighted to present a stimulating day of classes, presentations and performances for all string players and enthusiasts, celebrating the influence of folk music upon classical repertoire.

An exciting line-up of artists includes world-class RNCM teachers, visiting eminent musicians and our own students, with highlights including the Sitkovetsky Piano Trio, violinist Pavel Fischer with his trio, Bardolino, viola player Garth Knox, the guitarist Craig Ogden, Scottish folk duo Catriona McKay and Chris Stout and Principal Double Bass of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra Jiří Hudec.

There are opportunities throughout the day to observe technical workshops and classes given by leading string teachers, while the day’s schedule is underpinned by a series of short concerts demonstrating a variety of repertoire infused with a folk twist.

There will also be a comprehensive exhibition of new instruments and bows from the finest contemporary makers in the UK, so do stop by and take the opportunity to try them out.

An evening cabaret-style performance is the culmination of the day, in which our contributors let their hair down with a purely folk programme: one not to miss!

We hope you enjoy reading through the programme, and do visit www.rncm.ac.uk/stringsday where you can find further detailed information.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Chris Hoyle RNCM Head of School of Strings
