The Grand Final
THE GRAND FINAL THE OFFICIAL PROGRAMME SPONSORED BY It’s here! Players have spoken of their love for the game, their desire to see friends and teammates, their mental health wellbeing and, in some case, their ability to challenge for a UEFA Futsal Champions League nomination. Screened live across YouTube with tens of thousands of views so far, the pinnacle of this competition will be broadcast LIVE on BT Sport 1 on Sunday June 27! After what seems like an eternity , competitive indoor futsal returned four weeks ago in England in the form of The National Futsal Series / Summer Showdown and we think it is safe to say that it has been a fantastic success! Three games will adorn TV, laptop and mobile screens next weekend as the Summer Showdown Grand Final receives winners across three divisions. Bolton vs. London Helvecia Not the final many had predicted with the shock semi- final result of Bolton beating Uni of Liverpool on penalties creating yet another memorable moment for the Summer Showdown. Zara Musker has been the star of the show for Bolton and with captain Marni Sidhu missing out on the semi final with a knee problem, she may be asked to repeat that next weekend. Goalkeeper Joy Lowe had a fantastic weekend, with some penalty stops to boot, but this will be a bigger test as Bolton go up against the firepower of Helvecia. Leah Embley will also need to fully recover from an ankle problem incurred last weekend if they are to trouble the Women’s Super Series favourites… London Helvecia have moved the ball around like no other in the Women’s Super Series Summer Showdown and this may be something that Bolton have to learn to cope with as they spend lots of time watching the ball move around their half of the court. -

England Futsal History
ENGLAND FUTSAL HISTORY A timeline of the history of futsal, fútbol sala and futebol de salão in England Dr. Daniel Berdejo-del-Fresno & Kevin Bryant with the special collaboration of Geoffrey Payton & Mark Potter INTRODUCTION "Futsal" started on the 8th of September of 1930 when Juan Carlos Ceriani, a teacher in Montevideo (Uruguay) created a version of indoor football for recreation in YMCAs. This new sport was originally developed for playing on basketball courts, and a rule book was published in September 1933. Ceriani's goal was to create a team game that could be played indoor or outdoor but that was similar to football. Ceriani, writing the rule book, took as examples the principles of football (the possibility to touch the ball with every part of the body except for the hands), and he took rules from other sports too: from basketball the number of team players (five) and the game duration (40 actual minutes); from waterpolo the rules about the goalkeeper; from handball for the field and goal sizes. Futsal, fútbol sala and futebol de salão will be covered on this project. Most of the images on this timeline has been hyperlinked to the original source of information. Click on them to learn more about those events. The objective of this research has been three-fold: a) to recognise and acknowledge the people that got involved and helped in this process; b) to document the history and the steps of development that futsal took in England and c) to know the history, to understand the present and improve the future (very similar to Carl Sagan’s quote). -

UEFA Competitions to Resume in August
UEFA competitions to resume in August No. 028 - 17 June 2020 All twelve UEFA EURO 2020 host cities confirmed and new match schedule approved The UEFA Executive Committee today met via videoconference and took several decisions regarding the regulations, format, calendar and venues for a variety of UEFA club and national team competitions. Commenting on the decisions, UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin, said: “I am delighted that we are able to resume almost all of our competitions. I am confident that we will not have to endure the fans’ absence for long and that they will be allowed into stadiums sooner rather than later. “UEFA took a bold decision when it decided to postpone EURO 2020. But in doing so, we created the space which has allowed domestic club competitions across the continent to resume, where possible, and play to a conclusion. While the game has suffered huge difficulties as a result of the pandemic, those blows would have landed much harder if we had not shown leadership in those early days. “The football community has worked together and shown tremendous unity during this unprecedented crisis. I would like to thank FIFA, our sister confederations, national associations, clubs, leagues, players and the relevant authorities for their continuous support and commitment and I am convinced that we come out of this crisis stronger and with closer links than ever before. “It is of the utmost importance for us not only to complete our men’s and women’s competitions but also to finish our youth and futsal competitions whenever possible. We are firm believers of their importance and significance of the overall growth and development of the game, and I am delighted that we found solutions to stage the final rounds of all those competitions. -

UEFA"Direct #189 (28.02.2020)
No. 189 No.189 • March/April 2020 No.189 HOW IT ALL BEGAN EDITORIAL Theodore Theodoridis UEFA General Secretary UEFA CONTINUES TO EMPOWER AND INNOVATE IN WOMEN’S FOOTBALL hose of us who work in football can sometimes forget the magic of the game that inspired us to love it in the first place. Of course, players do not learn to love and play the game just by magic. It is UEFA’s T duty as European football’s governing body to empower people to play the game, and, through the unique UEFA-Disney Playmakers programme for girls aged five to eight, we will open up football to an audience not yet engaged with our sport. Inspired by storytelling in films such as Incredibles 2, the programme is the first-ever major pan-European grassroots football programme for girls and will be rolled out in seven countries this year. The aim is to create an environment where imaginations can run wild as an iconic Disney story is told through movement and play. This unique programme can be the spark for a more active generation of football-loving girls. When we launched Time for Action, our new strategy for women’s football last year, we laid out goals, strategies and outcomes that will ensure European football is as great as it can be. Playmakers is just one part of that commitment, and we look forward to working with Disney and our national association partners to realise the enormous potential of the programme. Elsewhere, UEFA has listened to leading female players and learned of the sacrifices they had to make starting out playing the game; the lack of facilities and their long journeys to training and matches.
