Bolton vs. London Helvecia Not the final many had predicted with the shock semi- final result of Bolton beating Uni of Liverpool on penalties creating yet another memorable moment for the Summer Showdown. Zara Musker has been the star of the show for Bolton and with captain Marni Sidhu missing out on the semi final with a knee problem, she may be asked to repeat that next weekend. Goalkeeper Joy Lowe had a fantastic weekend, with some penalty stops to boot, but this will be a bigger test as Bolton go up against the firepower of Helvecia. Leah Embley will also need to fully recover from an ankle problem incurred last weekend if they are to trouble the Women’s Super Series favourites… London Helvecia have moved the ball around like no other in the Women’s Super Series Summer Showdown and this may be something that Bolton have to learn to cope with as they spend lots of time watching the ball move around their half of the court.

    ENGLAND FUTSAL HISTORY A timeline of the history of futsal, fútbol sala and futebol de salão in England Dr. Daniel Berdejo-del-Fresno & Kevin Bryant with the special collaboration of Geoffrey Payton & Mark Potter INTRODUCTION "Futsal" started on the 8th of September of 1930 when Juan Carlos Ceriani, a teacher in Montevideo (Uruguay) created a version of indoor football for recreation in YMCAs. This new sport was originally developed for playing on basketball courts, and a rule book was published in September 1933. Ceriani's goal was to create a team game that could be played indoor or outdoor but that was similar to football. Ceriani, writing the rule book, took as examples the principles of football (the possibility to touch the ball with every part of the body except for the hands), and he took rules from other sports too: from basketball the number of team players (five) and the game duration (40 actual minutes); from waterpolo the rules about the goalkeeper; from handball for the field and goal sizes. Futsal, fútbol sala and futebol de salão will be covered on this project. Most of the images on this timeline has been hyperlinked to the original source of information.     FA National Futsal League Season 2015 - 16 New Club Application Guidance Resource The FA National Futsal League 2015-16 The FA National Futsal League was established in 2007/08 to provide an elite Futsal competition for the best teams in the country to regularly play against each other. The aims and intentions of creating these Futsal leagues were to: Increase & improve the quality of Futsal players and clubs in England Increase the awareness of Futsal across the country Provide an incentive through high level competitive games to retain players in Futsal To provide a pool of talented players to support the England national team The FA National Futsal League will be undergoing a restructure for the start of the 2015-16 season to improve the quality and competition levels of the League. It is anticipated that this restructure will help to raise the standards of futsal at the elite level in this country. New clubs are still welcome to apply to join the competition for the 2015-16 season, but they will be required to meet the expected standards and criteria prior to being considered for the League. This Guidance Resource will provide additional information to new clubs to help them understand what is expected of them. 1.     England Men’s Futsal Team’s Summary of Correspondence with FA CEO Mark Bullingham ❏ Consistent lack of transparency & accountability within The FA ❏ Futsal partnership revenues not being allocated to futsal ❏ Actions conflict with key strategic pillar of inclusion ❏ Alarming failures in their duty of care to athletes in regard to mental health ❏ Justification for withdrawal from UEFA Competition inconsistent with actions On the 23rd September 2020, The FA released a statement that was consistent with a Guardian news report that revealed nearly all funding for futsal would be wiped out, one consequence being the termination of the national team programme. We, the England Men’s Futsal Team, felt we must use our position to challenge this hugely detrimental decision in the interests of everyone within the futsal community as the sport appears to be under attack from The FA. Since the 24th September we’ve repeatedly requested a video conference call with the FA CEO, Mark Bullingham, to allow him to defend these decisions but he has continually failed to accept our invitation. He did, eventually, concede to accepting questions by email. Despite sustained efforts to get answers, we feel many questions remain left unanswered as, in general, the responses have been evasive and vague. We understand this lack of genuine engagement is shared by MPs and national media who have also put questions to the FA on the issue. The lack of transparency and accountability throughout is an appalling indictment for the governing body of the national game. We fully support the push for significant reform of the organisation so it can better serve all its communities and effectively fulfill the role of a governing body.

    Written evidence submitted by National Futsal League 15th November 2020 Dear DCMS Committee Members SPORT IN OUR COMMUNITIES: GOVERNANCE OF FUTSAL IN ENGLAND BY THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION Thank you for providing the National Futsal League (NFL) with an opportunity to submit evidence to your Committee. In this submission we would like to address the first two of the three issues of interest to your inquiry into Sport in our Communities: Are current sports governance models fit for purpose? o At what level of sport should the government consider spending public money? What are the biggest risks to the long-term viability of grassroots sport? o What key measures could the Government introduce to increase the resilience of sports clubs and venues? We do not address the third issue of interest to your inquiry (the extent to which elite professional sports should support the lower leagues and grassroots) because futsal in England is currently played only at grassroots level. We will make the case that the FA’s current governance model for futsal is not fit for purpose. This threatens the long-term viability of what is currently in England a grassroots sport played by amateurs and organised by unpaid volunteers. Background to futsal and the National Futsal League and our reasons for submitting evidence The FA is responsible for several versions of “football”, including futsal, which is the FIFA recognised indoor five-a-side version of football. From 2008-2019 the FA supported the NFL in delivering the top level open-age futsal competition across England. Currently over 17,000 FA-affiliated players of all ages play the sport across the country and it is one of the fastest- growing sports worldwide.
