To understand why voting in the ASUO election matters, forget for a moment the insignificance of high school student government and look beyond the flurry of T-shirts and clipboards. When voting closes, the winners are responsible for deciding what that $17 million gets spent on. Here are all the categories of position you can vote for: Senate The senate handles the majority of student money, mostly by two processes. First, finance senators spend the beginning to the middle of the academic year meeting with student groups to figure out the upcoming academic year’s budget. Executive Senate’s budget recommendation, which goes on to be approved by the ASUO and the university president, determines how much students will pay in the incidental fee the next year.
