Bassist Vince Hornsby joined drummer Morgan Rose in 1994, in a band called Snake Nation. John Connolly, a drummer, left his current band and joined Snake Nation as a guitarist. They recorded their first demo. Not happy with vocals, however, Snake Nation spent a year searching for a new singer before finding Lajon Witherspoon. Six months passed, Clint Lowery joined the band and they renamed themselves Rumblefish. Rumblefish was short-lived, however, because they found another band with the same name. They renamed themselves Crawlspace, and released My Ruin on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack album entitled More Kombat through TVT Records in 1996. Shortly after, another band named Crawlspace sent notice that they wanted $50,000 for the rights to their name. Rather than purchase the rights, the band members chose to rename themselves Sevendust. Sevendust released their self-titled debut on April 15, 1997, known for its heavy riffs, angry vocals and thrash-like drumming, as the songs Black and Bitch. Black was the opening song for nearly every Sevendust concert until 2004. The debut album also contains the song My Ruin, from the Mortal Kombat soundtrack. Sevendust appeared on the , remained there for sixteen weeks and peaked at 165 on April 4, 1998. The album went gold on May 19, 1999. In 1998, Sevendust performed at (May 29?31) and 1998 (July through August). In the same year they released a compilation called Live and Loud which featured footage of the bands September 16, 1998 performance at 's Metro. On August 24, 1999, they released their second album, Home. The album peaked at 19 on the Billboard 200 and featured Skin from and Chino Moreno from as guest vocalists. The two singles from the album, "Denial" and "Waffle", gave the band moderate chart success, and the latter of which was played on the Late Night with Conan O'Brien show. They appeared in Woodstock 1999 and have toured with many bands such as , , Nonpoint, Reveille, , Mudvayne, Mushroomhead, Powerman 5000, Creed, , Machine Head, , Disturbed, and . In 1999, they gained European exposure by opening for Skunk Anansie at various shows in . They also opened with Kid Rock and Ted Nugent for Metallica on New Year's Eve in 1999 at the Pontiac Silverdome near Detroit, Michigan. They also joined Slipknot, and other bands on the Tour in June 2000. In November 2001, the band released their third album, Animosity. This album went gold and gained the band commercial success thanks to the success of singles "Praise" and "Angel's Son", which peaked at 15 and 11, respectively, on the Mainstream Rock Tracks. "Angel's Son" was a tribute to Lynn Strait, the lead singer of the band Snot, whom the members of Sevendust were friends with. Strait had died in a car accident in 1998. In addition to being included on Animosity, the song was included on the compilation album . The band made an appearance on Late Night with David Letterman playing an acoustic version of "Angel's Son" featuring Paul Shaffer on keyboards. In the same year Sevendust was seen in the Chris Rock movie Down to Earth as a partial clip of "Waffle" is played. Another friend of the band, Dave Williams the lead singer of Drowning Pool, died in 2002. Tragedy would strike again when Lajon Witherspoon's younger brother was shot and killed later that year. Due to his death, Sevendust went on hiatus in 2002. In 2003, Sevendust returned with their fourth album, Seasons. The album debuted at #14 in the US, selling around 68,000 copies in its first week. This was one of the band's best received and to date features their highest charting single (tied with "Driven"), "Enemy," which peaked at #10 on the Mainstream Rock Chart. "Enemy" was made the official theme song for WWE Unforgiven 2003. Other singles released from the album, "Broken Down" and "Face To Face," met with more moderate success charting at 20 and 22, respectively. In 2004, for the first time in the band's career, they released a live album on a CD/DVD double disk package titled Southside Double-Wide Acoustic Live. Both the CD and the DVD include a cover of "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails which is dedicated to Johnny Cash. On December 11, 2004, after playing a show in Columbus, Ohio, it was announced that Clint Lowery had left the band mid-tour, because he wanted to play with his brother in his new band , who had reportedly just signed with Warner Bros. Records. A replacement was found for the rest of the dates and was eventually replaced by from Snot and Amen. At roughly the same time, Sevendust and TVT Records parted ways. On March 26, 2008, Sevendust announced that Clint Lowery, former guitarist and vocalist for the band, had quit his duties as guitarist for Dark New Day and would be returning to the Sevendust lineup in place of Sonny Mayo. On Lowery's return, Morgan Rose stated "This was extremely tough considering Sonny is our brother and has been amazing to work with. [Sonny] didn't do anything wrong at all; we just owe it to ourselves and all the folks that grew up with us to put our original band back together." Since formation, Sevendust has released eight studio albums, earned additional charting success and gold sales certifications. Their eighth studio album, titled Cold Day Memory, was released on April 20, 2010. They have also re-released their self-titled debut album as Sevendust: Definitive Edition which contains five new tracks and a DVD. SEVENDUST: 'Enemy' MP3 Available For Download. As previously reported, SEVENDUST recorded 17 tracks during the sessions for the new CD at Atlanta's Ruby Red Studios with producer Butch Walker ( INJECTED , SR-71 ). Around 12-13 songs will end up on the final album, which was mixed at NRG Recording in North Hollywood by Jay Baumgardner ( PAPA ROACH , ALIEN ANT FARM , DROWNING POOL ). Among the tracks recorded for the CD was a cover of MARVIN GAYE 's "Inner City Blues" , which will likely be released on a forthcoming soundtrack or as a b-side. Other cuts tracked during the sessions include "Disgrace" , "Seasons" , "Honesty" , and "Skeleton Song" . Sevendust Home. For their second studio release "Home," Sevendust chose to slow things down just a tad, lower the note-scheme, and highlight the talents of singer LaJon Witherspoon. Coming out in 1999, the album makes use of many vintage nu-metal tactics that were commonplace during the era. Many simple two chord hooks are used, as well as light electronic sampling, and drum beats that are purely modern, relying on almost no past influences for inspiration. In a way, "Home" is the epitome of aggro-rock; thriving on booming low notes, tense melodies, and precise guitar-chugging. All of this is a hard shell to penetrate, full of thick textures that establish the density of this music. They manage to make some of their verses somewhat catchy, but catchiness isn't the name of the game with this album. Sevendust aims to garner listeners' attention by illustrating the steroid-injected strength of their sound, instead of playing with hooky riffs and jingles. While songs like "Denial" or "Licking Creme" may beable to produce addicting chorus riffs, they stand in a terrain covered mostly with tones that are grimey and dirty. The overall goal on “Home” appears to be saturating the air with instrumentation, be it sweet or sour. The opening title track is built almost solely upon Clint Lowery's single-note syncopated chugging and Morgan Rose's corresponding quick bass- drumming. The verse spreads across a two bend-note broken melody that transitions back into the single note bludgeoning for the chorus. While there is a lack of beauty present in the music at times, there is always elegance in Lajon Witherspoon’s vocal performance. Maybe Witherspoon doesn't scream very loudly, or maniacally, but he sings without an awkward moment sliding by. Five times out of 10 in fact, Witherspoon will astound you with his mash-up style of soul and heavy metal. In the heavier cuts “Crumpled” and “Rumble Fish” the machinistic guitar strumming and identical bass-lines are completely unseasoned on their own, but Witherspoon adds only the finest spices to the mix, and delivers a dish aimed to fill you up more than please your taste buds. It manages to do both well, but it’s still somehow apparent that these aren’t the absolute, most premium-rated cuts of meat. The second half of “Feel So” sees LaJon stepping back a few feet to only draw so much attention, while Lowery pummels you with a riff that could have ignited Static-X’s entire career. There is a noticeable disruption in the balance here but Sevendust fans most likely will understand if the group’s budget can’t bring in the #1 sirloin slabs. Looking past the majority of songs on here and their diamond-esque hardness, there are also a number of briefly majestic tunes. “Waffle” has a verse melody that slowly floats away while Witherspoon performs his most passionate singing on the record. The chorus then rolls around with the thunderous pluck of Lowery’s axe, as well as a now furious and howling Witherspoon. The introductory guitar tone of “Grasp” is dressed in effects that produce a dreamy feel, and transitions fluently into one of the group’s most well-synchronized rhythms on the album. All in all, Sevendust’s “Home” is one of the beefiest alt-metal albums to date. Boasting few vocal flaws, satisfactory bass work, and a barricade of loud and low guitars, the album leaves little to criticize and a lot to love. Nothing since Helmet has been this raw and mechanical, and in the art of heavy music, it works out just fine. Some moments do beg for more creativity, and the guys aren’t as memorable as most players in their league. But when it comes right down to it, “Home” is a groovy joyride that you will not want to skip one song of. Sevendust home album download. Like other nu-metal bands, Sevendust is noted for its socially conscious lyrics and musical accessibility, the latter often credited to lead singer Lajon Witherspoon�s vocals, which have been compared favorably to Living Colour�s Corey Glover and the Doors� Jim Morrison. The band formed as Crawlspace in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1995. Drummer Morgan Rose told Jason Bracelin in CMJ New Music Monthly that his father was a guitarist and his mother, who followed the Raspberries in the 1970s, took her young son to see David Bowie�s Ziggy Stardust tour, which he witnessed while sitting on the shoulders of a security guard. He credits his father with teaching him guitar and claimed that he was able to play Jimi Hendrix�s �If 6 Was 9� when he was three years old. Rose teamed with Lajon Witherspoon, who has been performing in a variety of soul-music oriented bands. The group almost didn�t get its big break. When they discovered that an Atlanta industry showcase gig they had booked was obscure and difficult to locate, they almost cancelled. Luckily, they played anyhow, and some executives from the record company TVT got lost looking for another club and saw Crawlspace�s set instead. The group signed with TVT. By 1996 the band had a manager, former Twisted Sister band guitarist Jay Jay French, and had contributed the song �My Ruin� to the soundtrack of the film Mortal Kombat: More Kombat. Sevendust recorded their self-titled debut album with producer Toby Wright after changing their name in 1997. Sevendust earned gold record status, helped along with a half-hour television concert entitled Sevendust: Live and Loud and plenty of touring. The band�s follow-up effort, Home, released in 1999, also went gold. Sevendust members, however, dismissed it as unrepresentative of the group�s abilities. �We got a few really good songs out of it, and there�s some songs on there that�ll never get played again. Never,� Rose told Bracelin. While touring to promote the album, the band�s drug abuse caught up with them. Rose overdosed on cocaine in 1999, and one of the group�s road crew died of an overdose in 2001. Despite Witherspoon�s acknowledged daily marijuana use and consumption of tobacco and alcohol by band members, Rose insisted that the band remained drugfree since his cocaine overdose. In 2000 they recorded a Twisted Sister song for an album honoring their manager�s former group, and contributed the song �Fall� to the film soundtrack. Sevendust toured more than 39 consecutive months in support of Home and returned to Atlanta nearly bankrupt. Blaming French for their financial difficulties, the band dismissed him as manager in 2000, and, after signing with a new management team�Jeff Hanson Management and Promotion�moved to Orlando, Florida, to be closer to them. Their third album, Animosity, released in 2001, blends songs that range from softer power ballads�such as the tribute to late singer Lynn Strait of the band Snot called �Angel�s Son��and aggressive . �We realized that we didn�t have to try to be the heaviest band in the world,� Rose explained in a press release for Animosity. �Our initial goal as a band had been to be a brutally heavy band musically that also featured the unbelievable vocals of Lajon on top of that, but somewhere along the line, we separated ourselves from letting him showcase his voice.� Produced by Ben Grosse, who had also produced albums for the bands Filter and Fuel, Animosity reflects the eight months the members of Sevendust took to write and record the songs, and many critics noted that it included several songs that display Witherspoon�s soulful and melodic vocal range, which causes it to stand out from the group�s preceding albums. The album also features the vocal stylings of from the band Staind. Some also speculated that the album�s most bitter lyrics concerned the band�s former manager, especially the album�s lead track, �T.O.A.B.,� in which Rose wrote: �How is it that you sleep?/� Black and white, I ask this question/Twisted lies come clean.� Assessing the album for the Aquarian Weekly, Adrian Gregory Glover wrote: �It�s rare these days to see a band take a huge leap forward without compromising its original vision.� Following the release of Animosity, Sevendust began playing an extensive tour to support the album, which went gold in March of 2002, and contributed a song to the 2002 fantasy film The Scorpion King. Sevendust has spent years touring to support their album releases and have also soared in visibility with sets on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O�Brien, and Farmclub. Over the years, they have managed a tour with Creed and a �nearly-legendary, festival- stealing� performance at Woodstock �99. To Metal Edge�s Brian Reesman, Witherspoon said, �Man, right now, Sevendust feels magical to me. It�s exciting. I get up and I can�t wait to play.
