Finally, the wait is over! The Com Games have arrived. On the 4th April the Opening ceremony will take place and the very next day the Squash program begins.

The court is looking absolutely spectacular ... in fact the whole venue looks fantastic!

It is so refreshing to see a world class squash arena. Queensland desperately needs such a facility on a permanent basis.

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a permanent mini arena that was suitable for smaller style sporting events: squash, table tennis, weightlifting and a whole host of other sports.

Fully equipped and set up for filming and showcasing sports WORLD RANKings as at 1 APRIL 2018 that are not designed for large audiences. GOOD LUCK SANDGATE MS OPEN

Great to see some PSA action in Queensland! The Sandgate MS Open attracted some of Australia’s best women squash players to Brisbane.

The 2018 Champion is Christine Nunn who proved her 3-0 win in last month’s Australian Nationals against was full of merit. The W#55 was too good for the W#57 winning the final in four. Nunn looks like she is getting back to the form that saw her reach a career high 36 in July 2016.

The Top 8 seeds all went through to the Photo courtesy of quarter finals and the Top 4 seeds went through to the semi finals so there were no upsets.

Sandgate’s Jessica Turnbull lost out to Nunn in the semi final.

Nunn and Saxby will be representing Australia at the Commonwealth Games in April. In 2018 Camilleri and Finitsis participated in the Queen’s Baton Relay.

Camilleri ran a leg in Tully whilst Finitsis ran in Cairns.

I have personally known both athletes since their teens and they have always been first class ambassadors for their home communities, NR, Queensland and Australia.

“It was an amazing experience. Nothing better then coming back to grass roots where my squash journey began to represent the Tully Community “ said Camilleri.

Despite running in Cairns, Finitsis felt he also represented his home community of Innisfail.

Ironically, Finitsis (Runner # 96) handed the Baton over to his cousin Peter (Runner # 97).

The Queen’s Baton Relay began its journey on 13 March 2017 at Buckingham Palace. The mission was for the Baton to travel for 388 days through all nations ALEXANDER and territories of the Commonwealth. The Baton will arrive on the Gold Coast for the XXI Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony on 4 April 2018, where a representative for Her Majesty, will remove the message from the Baton and read it aloud to officially open the Games.

Queensland will be represented by Zac Alexander and our very own legend Rachael Grinham at this year’s Games. 2018 AFFILIATION
