Picture Perfect Sana Ullah's Internship Experience with the Office of Facilities Management and Reliability (OFMR)

Sana Ullah is a graduate student at George Washington University studying New Media Photojournalism. During the Summer of 2016, she interned with the Smithsonian Institution for the Office of Facilities Management and Reliability (OFMR).

While interning with OFMR, Sana created fliers, edited videos, learned from digital archive specialists, met many well-known Smithsonian photographers, and more. But Sana had a goal during her internship.

Teachers, staff, and interns of Smithsonian Project SEARCH

Through Project SEARCH, young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities learn relevant, marketable skills while immersed in an on-site business experience.

On February 1, 2017, Project SEARCH Smithsonian held a fair at the S. Dillon Ripley Center to celebrate their student's hard work and progress. Guests engaged with students, and students were able to answer any questions guests might have. Students, teachers, and guests mingled and had friendly conversation in the display room as well as over refreshments. Many displays boasted the vast experiences these students had: from Program and Administrative support in the Smithsonian Science & Education Center (SSEC) to Collections Support at the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH)!

On January 11, 2017, American University students participating in the school's annual Class to Career Conference spent their morning at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History (NMAH). During this time, they heard from five speakers: four members of the Smithsonian's Academic Appointment Diversity and Publicity Taskforce (AADAPT) and one speaker from the National Gallery of Art.

There's a lot to do when a part of the James Smithson Fellowship Program! This program excels at combining research and public policy by exposing their fellows to both amazing Smithsonian collections and to other leaders within their field.

On Thursday January 26, 2017, the 2016 James Smithson Fellows visited the Museum Support Center (MSC) in Suitland, MD. While there, this group had the pleasure of going on two behind-the-scenes tours hosted by fellows Dr. Matthew Leslie (NMNH) and Dr. Jeremy Feinberg (NMNH).

Where Are They Now?

Marcela Guerrero

Where in the world are former Smithsonian fellows now? Marcela Guerrero, a 2006 Smithsonian Latino Museum Studies Program (LMSP) Fellow, was recently appointed as assistant curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Guerrero will be coming from her curatorial fellowship at the Hammer Museum, where she worked on the exhibition "Radical Women: Latin American Art, 1960-1985."
