TRAIN-THE-TRAINER WORKSHOP

Training Consultant to Conduct Train-the-Trainer Workshop for CCIC Hub Partners in the Coordination & Execution of Business Accelerators and Bootcamps.

Consultant (Business Development & Training) for CCIC hubs in the CARICOM zone to develop and replicate business accelerators and bootcamps in accordance with the CCIC model.

Rationale for Programmes Train-the-Trainer a) The Climate Innovation Center (CCIC) sets out to contribute to the advancement of a more prosperous and more integrated Caribbean community. CCIC aims to achieve this by: strengthening a regional network of business enablers (incubators / innovation hubs) through a hub and spoke model and enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of growth-oriented entrepreneurs. b) The CCIC has 14 country hubs throughout CARICOM that assist the Center with the engagement and provision of support to green technology entrepreneurs in business development coaching, mentorship and training. The aim is for entrepreneurs to impact their communities and other potential markets through their business solutions. c) The CCIC has secured funding from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) to engage its hub partners from across CARICOM in capacity building training that will equip them with the knowledge and tools necessary to coordinate and execute training and mentorship programmes to green technology entrepreneurs through business acceleration and bootcamp programmes.

BACKGROUND

 The Entrepreneurship Program for Innovation in the Caribbean (EPIC) is funded by the Government of Canada and managed by infoDev/World Bank. One of the core components of the program is the development of a climate innovation eco-system in the Caribbean. Under this program component, the Caribbean Climate Innovation Centre (CCIC) provides support services and financing to Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), which focuses on climate change mitigation and adaptation needs.  The specific areas of support are water management, energy efficiency, solar energy, resource use efficiency and sustainable agriculture. The services offered include bootcamps, business accelerators, mentoring, business development training, access to finance, networking and marketing support.

 The CCIC was implemented by a consortium comprising the Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI) of Trinidad and Tobago and the Scientific Research Council (SRC) of Jamaica. CARIRI and SRC are two of the Caribbean’s most reputable scientific organisations, with combined experience of more than 100 years.  Fourteen (14) Caribbean countries are benefiting from this initiative. These are: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, , Belize, Dominica, Grenada, , Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.  The CCIC has executed nine (9) bootcamps and Idea Generation Sessions in 9 CARICOM countries. The bootcamp, dubbed Caribbean Greentech Startup Bootcamp is aimed at empowering entrepreneurs to be better educated and prepared to start clean tech startups. The top ideas that emerged from the bootcamps are invited to join the CCIC Launchit Accelerator Programme. The accelerator is a rolling virtual programme with no specific timeline for admission.

SCOPE OF WORK

a) The Consultant will be responsible for designing, coordinating and executing the workshop schedule based on bootcamp curriculum provided by the CCIC; b) The Consultant will design accelerator and bootcamp toolkits comprising of programme manual, templates and other training and assessment documents that will facilitate replication of programmes; c) The Consultant will equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to execute training sessions in new business methodologies and other subject areas of the accelerator and bootcamp curriculum; d) The Consultant will include simulation exercises as part of the workshop to facilitate practice; e) The Consultant will be responsible for creating a set of evaluation criteria for assessing the impact of the training workshop; f) The selected individual/organisation will sign an agreement outlining the terms and conditions of the relationship, towards the delivery of the training which will take place in Barbados.

TIMELINE

The Consultant (Business Development & Training) will work closely with the CCIC team as early as March1, 2018 through March 24, 2018 when the final report will be delivered.

DELIVERABLES

a) A workshop schedule outlining topics to be covered during the workshop and session periods; b) Toolkit comprising all the Accelerator and Bootcamp branded document templates; c) A training manual for participants to utilize during the training sessions;

d) Execution of training sessions for three days in the coordination and execution of the Launchit Accelerator and Caribbean Greentech Startup bootcamp; e) An assessment report on participants’ satisfaction and success of the training.

BUDGET

The budget for this assignment is US$6000 inclusive of accommodation and travel for the 3 days’ workshop in Barbados.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

1) An established track record in training entrepreneurs, especially in Micro Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). 2) Experience in the design and development of curriculum, teaching and learning aids. 3) Appropriate and extensive experience in the development of publication-quality training materials. 4) Participatory training skills, facilitation techniques, delivering workshops, training and mentorship techniques. 5) Strong knowledge of and interest in entrepreneurship. 6) Knowledge of the impact of climate change and the importance of green technology-focused enterprises. 7) Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. 8) If a firm, the firm’s principals must have a minimum of 5 years’ relevant professional work experience. 9) Experience of working in a multicultural environment. 10) Knowledge and experience working across CARICOM region. 11) Familiarity with social media and networking tools and strong computer skills. 12) Ability to work with limited supervision, self-motivated, objective-oriented.

EXPECTED SCOPE AND DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT

a) The Consultant is expected work with the CCIC team to develop the programme during the period beginning March 1, 2018 until March 24, 2018. b) The Consultant is expected to conduct training of trainer sessions during the period March 21-23, 2018 in Barbados.
