Funds raised will support an array of existing programs, such as: • Educational programs in local schools using tennis history as an inspirational curriculum platform • Preservation of tennis artifacts in our museum collection • Tennis programming for kids ranging from hosting clinics with Hall of Famers to bringing youth groups to events in Newport to talk with professional and collegiate athletes • Putting racquets in the hands of at kids who might not ever otherwise be exposed to tennis through partnerships with Boys and Girls Club and other organizations • Celebrations for Hall of Famers in their local markets, such as presentation of their Hall of Fame ring on center court at tennis events • Sharing tennis history with fans around the world through traveling museum exhibitions THE CAUSE Setting Up A Bright Future As one of our most impactful fundraisers, The Legends Ball is vital to the ITHF’s ability to grow and to be a positive force in the tennis world – on and off the court. A recently completed $15 million capital campaign resulted in a completely renovated museum, new tennis facilities in Newport named for the Hall of Famers, and an improved stadium. The 10 winners, ranging in ages 10 to 18 will receive a travel package from August 22 - August 24 that includes: round-trip coach airfare to New York City for themselves and a parent/legal guardian; two nights lodging at the New York Grand Hyatt Hotel; an honorary plaque; lunch with the 106 th Mayor of New York City and USTA Board Member David Dinkins; two tickets to a New York Mets baseball game vs. the Houston Astros; tickets to Broadway’s “The Lion King;” and tickets to 2008 Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day presented by Hess on August 23 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day is the official kick-off for the 2008 US Open that runs August 25 – September 7. The USTA/NJTL Arthur Ashe Essay Contest was open to children, 18 or younger.
