Wright Dear Colleague, Attached is the 41st version of the Educational Technology and Education Conference List. The events for May and June 2019 have been updated since distribution of the previous list. As it is impossible to note every legitimate conference that is planned, this is a SELECTED list of professional development opportunities. It is prudent to take the time to conduct your own due diligence for any events you want to attend or submit a paper to. Information on the list was accurate on the distribution date. When you view the list, information may have changed – such as the dates and venue –and some may have been cancelled. Dates often change by one or two days and this can affect your flight and hotel arrangements. When I assemble the list, I need to quickly discern whether an event is legitimate and/or quality focused. The events may be held to attract papers which people plagiarize (and then publish the papers in their local language and receive academic or scientific credit) and/or to gather funds and offer little in return. These conferences may also use the same "keynote" speakers from year to year, indicate that the names and titles of those of the program committee are pending (but regardless of when I return to the web site, the program committee members' names, institutional affiliation, and e-mail addresses are still pending), list people on their site without a way of contacting them, promise to publish submitted papers for a fee (this fee can amount to several hundred dollars), charge a low fee for attendees but a higher fee for presenters, and/or have initial query forms that require too much detailed personal information (these can be used to steal your identity). And, events maybe organized and/or sponsored by bogus organizations. Obviously, I cannot guarantee nor do I claim that all the events on the conference list are legitimate. But, each time I compile the list, I examine a group of conferences very carefully. When you see events listed on conference databases on which people can add their own information, you might want to be a little cautious. Seriously, do not waste your time and effort submitting papers or registering for questionable events. ALWAYS check a conference website, particularly the organization behind it, carefully. As some organizations are moving to use an acronym without explaining somewhere on their web page what it stands for, determining the focus of the organization and their professional development events can be difficult to decipher. The list is prepared as a professional courtesy. Do share the list with your colleagues. If you re-distribute or publish the list on the web, please retain my contact information on the list as that is one way people inform me about new events or tell me an event will no longer be offered. If you no longer want to receive the conference list, just send me an e-mail to that effect - no explanation is required, crwr77 at gmail.com. Best regards, Clayton P.S. Seriously, there are a few conference organizers and journal publishers who do not operate with your best interests in mind. “A federal judge has ordered journal publisher and conference organizer Srinubabu Gedela and his companies to pay more than $50.1 million to resolve Federal Trade Commission charges that they made deceptive claims to academics and researchers about the nature of their conferences and publications, and hid steep publication fees." The above quote was noted on the April 4, 2019 website of the American Federal Trade Commission: https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/press-releases/2019/04/court- rules-ftcs-favor-against-predatory-academic-publisher-omics Further details about the case can be accessed at the aforementioned website. Wright, crwr77[at] gmail.com 2 Educational Technology and Education Conferences for June to December 2019, Edition #41 Prepared by Clayton R. Wright, crwr77 at gmail.com, May 11, 2019 The 41st edition of the conference list covers selected professional development opportunities that primarily focus on the use of technology in educational settings and on teaching, learning, and educational administration. Only listings until December 2019 are most complete as dates, locations, or Internet addresses (URLs) were not available for a number of events held after that date. In order to protect the privacy of individuals, only URLs are used in the listing as this enables readers of the list to obtain event information without submitting their e-mail addresses. A significant challenge during the assembly of this list is incomplete or conflicting information on websites and the lack of a link between conference websites from one year to the next. An explanation for the content and format of the list can be found at http://newsletter.alt.ac.uk/2011/08/why- distribute-documents-in-ms-word-or-openoffice-for-an-international-audience/. A Word or an OpenOffice format is used to enable people with limited or high-cost Internet access to find a conference that is congruent with their interests or obtain conference abstracts or proceedings. Consider using the “Find” tool under Microsoft Word’s “Edit” tab or similar tab in OpenOffice to locate the name of a particular conference, association, city, or country. If you enter the country “Australia” or place, such as “Hong Kong” in the “Find” tool, all conferences that occur in Australia or Hong Kong will be highlighted. Or, enter the word “research” or “assessment”. (Note that key words such as “research”, “assessment” or “MOOCs” may not be present in the conference title, yet these topics could be discussed during a particular conference.) Then, “cut and paste” a list of suitable events for your colleagues. Please note that events, dates, titles, and locations may change and some events may be cancelled. Thus, CHECK the specific conference website not only for basic information, but to assure yourself that the conference is legitimate. Just as there is an increasing number of predatory or fake journals, there is also an increase in the number of conferences that are not quality-focused. Check your “gut” – if it doesn’t feel quite right, perhaps more checking is in order. Take the time to conduct your own due diligence for any events you want to attend or submit a paper to. No liability is assumed for any errors that may have been introduced inadvertently during the assembly of this FREE conference list.
