Scholarships This listing is based on the best information we have at this time. Please advise the Guidance Department of any errors, updates or additions. In particular, check application dates as they may change from year to year. These scholarships are only a sampling of the most common scholarships available for this region and should not be your only source of information. Scholarships are based on many different criteria such as participation, financial need, academics, geographic area, community involvement, leadership, parents’ workplace or community involvement, etc. Most require application forms and/or essays, so it does take time to research and apply for scholarships. Always leave yourself sufficient time to obtain reference letters if required. Research additional scholarships on these internet sites www.studentawards.com (some info and tips available without registering, much more personalized information if you register) www.scholarshipscanada.com (as above, more personalized information if you register) www.aucc.ca (Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada) Each college or university offers its own awards. General criteria for college or university scholarships are in a separate document, but it is worthwhile to check out the institution’s own website as awards are updated. Post-secondary subsidies are available for people who wish to join the Canadian Armed Forces. Depending on your career path, you may enter the ROTP (Regular Officer Training Plan), the CFCCEP (Canadian Forces Community College Entry Plan), or the RETP (Reserve Entry Training Plan). Depending on your plan, there will be obligations about which fees you pay, whether you earn a salary, whether you will be expected to work in the summer, and the minimum service obligation after graduation. Contact a Canadian Forces Recruiting Centre, preferably during your grade 11 year to find out more, and to start the application process.
