E-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT This paper presents a new titanosaur sauropod, collected from levels of reddish clays assigned to the Plottier Formation (Coniacian-Santonian). The holotype of Petrobrasaurus puestohernandezi gen. et. sp. nov. is a disarticulated specimen, from which teeth, cervical, dorsal and caudal vertebrae, sternal plates, metacarpals, femora, tibia, a fragment of ilium, pubis, haemal arches, and cervical and dorsal ribs have been preserved. This period is of particular interest because it saw the definitive isolation of the vertebrate faunas of Patagonia, with the separation of South America from the rest of Gondwana, a process that had begun during the Early Cretaceous. -

The material consists of an incomplete edentulous lower jaw that was collected from the upper portion of the Portezuelo Formation (Turonian-Early Coniacian) at the Futalognko site, northwest of Neuquén city, Argentina. The overall morphology of Argentinadraco barrealensis gen. et sp. nov. indicates that it belongs to the Azhdarchoidea and probable represents an azhdarchid species. The occlusal surface of the anterior portion is laterally compressed and shows blunt lateral margins with a medial sulcus that are followed by two well- developed mandibular ridges, which in turn are bordered laterally by a sulcus. The posterior end of the symphysis is deeper than in any other azhdarchoid. -

Two species are known from the Neuquén Group in Argentina: Lomasuchus palpebrosus (Portezuelo Formation, late Turonian–early Coniacian) and Gasparinisuchus peirosauroides (Bajo de la Carpa and Anacleto formations, Santonian and early Campanian, respectively). Here, we describe the first peirosaurid from the Cerro Lisandro Formation, Bayomesasuchus hernandezi gen. et sp. nov. The material corresponds to a fragmentary skull and mandible. Although frag - mentary, this is the most complete crocodyliform specimen recorded for the Cerro Lisandro Formation. In a phylogenetic analysis Bayome - sasuchus is depicted in a polytomy together with South American peirosaurids and the African form Hamadasuchus rebouli . Key words. Bayomesasuchus . Peirosauridae. Here is presented a summary review of the South American record for these theropods. Unenlagia comahuensis, Unenlagia paynemili, and Neuquenraptor argentinus come from the Portezuelo Formation, the former genus being the most complete and with putative avian features. -

Argentina. e-mail: [email protected] Resumo O presente trabalho trata de um estudo de geologia regional, sedimentologia e tectônica feito nas seqüências marinhas costeiras rasas de idade neocretàcica a miocênica. Estas seqüências estão coligadas num sistema do tipo “rift basin” que evoluiu desde o neocretácico. A bacia em estudo encontra-se localizada no América do Sul, bordejando ao oeste do Escudo Brasileiro. O sistema regional rift basin da Bacia Chaco Paraná formou-se como uma típica bacia extensional intracratónica, limitada no oeste pelo antepaís do orógeno andino, que ainda não tinha sofrido sua principal fase de orogênese e levantamento regional. As amplas áreas invadidas pelos mares e seus depósitos associados de seqüências costeiras superficiais cobriram uma ampla pediplanicie de relevo pouco pronunciado. A primeira etapa transgressiva começou ao final do Senoniano tardío ou Maestrichtiano prematuro. Logo aconteceram oi avanços maiores até o Neo- Mioceno, com retrocessos e avanços sucessivos de menor importancia. Podem registrar-se pelo menos três etapas de associações de clímax extensionais (crustal stretchs) e de mar alto associadas com variações eustáticas ocorridas durante o Senoniano-Maestrichtiano-Paleoceno, o Eoceno e o Mioceno. O primeiro aconte- cimento transgressivo aconteceu durante o Neo-Cretàcico, mas seu registro sedimentológico conhecido é escasso. With relatively large body size, parietals meeting at the midline, anterior ceratohyal with a beryciform foramen in the center, a complete predorsal scutes series of very high number and about equally-size scutes with radiating ridges on dorsal surface, first preural centrum unfused with first uroneural but fused with the parhypural, and first ural centrum of roughly the same size as the preural centrum, Guiclupea superstes cannot be assigned to the order Clupeiformes. The phy- logenetic analyses using parsimony and Bayesian inference methods with Chanos/Elops as outgroup respectively suggests that the new form is closer to ellimmichthyiform genus Diplomystus than to any other fishes, although there are some discrepancies between the two criteria and different outgroups used. It shares with Diplomystus the high supraoccipital crest, pelvic-fin insertion in advance of dorsal fin origin, and the number of predorsal scutes more than 20. The new form represents the youngest Submitted 17 December 2020 ellimmichthyiform fish record in the world. -
