Jim Prentice, Vice Chair Brad Robertson, Secretary/Treasurer On behalf of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame Board of Governors, I am pleased to present the 2013 Annual Report. Scott Cooper 2013 was a successful year for Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, with a lot of effort spent on positioning the Jane Hungerford organization for future sustainability and success. Visitor numbers to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame continued to George Marlatte grow with a significant increase in group visits, facility rentals, and school programs over the previous year. Marnie McBean Scott Moore We acknowledge and thank Governors Jane Hungerford, Marnie McBean and Scott Moore, who retired at the Mike Robinson completion of their terms at the 2014 Annual General Meeting, for their hard work and dedication. Dafoe's life in skating crossed decades and touched nearly every corner of the sport. For her contributions, she was inducted into the Skate Canada Hall of Fame, Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame, Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame. "True pioneers in their sport, Dafoe and [Norris] Bowden (Dafoe's pairs partner) brought figure skating to a new level of sophistication with their imaginative lifts and jumps," said Mario Siciliano, president and CEO of Canada's Sports Hall of Fame. Olympic pairs gold medalists Barbara Wagner and Bob Paul referred to Dafoe and Bowden as their mentors.     What an exciting month for skating! First, it is almost time for our annual Ice Carnival! Costumes have been handed out, pictures are about to be taken, and practices are well under way. This means more dates and times for everyone to remember, and many special instructions, so please mark your calendars, and continue to check the bulletin board and especially the trophy display case for up-to-date information. But it’s also an exciting time for skating in Canada, with the Vancouver Olympics just around the corner. We know our athletes will do well, but just how well have our figure skaters done over the years at the Olympics? How many medals do you think Canada has won in figure skating? For the answer, see the back page of this newsletter. And don’t forget to tune in to cheer on our skaters, or check the Skate Canada website for up-to-date information!
