Organizers reserve the right to disqualify carvers who produce sculptures that are considered to be in poor taste or commercial in character. Artists must remove all tools, cardboard, extra ice and debris from their allocated carving area at the end of every competition day and ensure that the carving is ready for judging at the end of the competition. The Festival’s site staff will be available to assist with cardboard, ice and debris removal. Competition organizers are not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen tools and equipment. WEATHER The Boardwalk Ice on Whyte Festival’s competition will be held in a giant tent. This will mitigate conditions for very warm or very cold temperatures. All decisions regarding carving in adverse weather conditions will be made at the orientation by the judges and artists. This decision is final and will be adhered to by the competitors for the duration of the competition. SAFETY In order to ensure the safety of all participants, health and safety measures are applicable for this event. Artists must wear personal protective equipment. Safety boots, pants or chaps with ballistic nylon inserts, chainsaw gloves, hearing protection, protective eyewear and any other relevant health and safety equipment are strongly recommended. The judges are aware of the importance of health and safety at this event and, should a lack of personal protective equipment or dangerous work methods be noted, they will issue warnings which may result in point reduction or disqualification. Our membership numbers remain on an upward path, reflecting the appeal and popularity of our sport throughout British Columbia. We welcomed strong participation in all our programs - whether Team BC, adult recreational, or grassroots – and we continue to seek new and creative ways of supporting and providing opportunities for individuals to play, coach or referee. Our portfolio of events went from strength to strength this year. We had a record 410 teams register for our Indoor Provincial Championships, representing the largest number in Volleyball BC history. The Pro Beach Tour and Vancouver Open, our signature summer events, saw some of the best beach volleyball players from North America compete throughout our series of tournaments. And we hosted our fifth Hall of Fame Annual Dinner to recognise the contribution of those individuals so integral to our sport.
