It was first collected in 1693 and continued to be collected until 1963. Before 1780 Land Tax Assessments are rare but from then until 1832 duplicates of the Land Assessments had to be lodged with the Clerk of the Peace and are to be found in County Quarter Sessions records. In 1798 the tax was fixed at 4 shillings in the pound and this was made as a permanent charge on the land. The landowners were given the choice of paying 15 years of tax in a lump sum and by 1815 one third of landowners had taken this option. Worcestershire Land Tax Returns can give: Rental value of the owner’s property. Names of owners and copyholders. Names of occupiers. Names or description of property or estate. The amounts of tax levied. Those owners exonerated from paying the tax annually.

  • 21St June 2020 – the 2Nd Sunday After Trinity
Abberton, Bishampton, Flyford Flavell, Grafton Flyford, Naunton Beauchamp, North Piddle, Throckmorton The Flyfords Flyer The Flyfords Family of Churches News 21st June 2020 – The 2nd Sunday After Trinity Dear Friends, As you know, all around us things are changing- by the day, and almost by the hour! Some of our churches are planning to open for short periods for private prayer, and we are being allowed to join appropriate 'bubbles' of people for socially-distanced communication. Shops and gardens are opening again, and less travel restrictions are on the horizon. However, some people are still needing to 'shield' for various reasons, and can feel lonely and isolated- that's why we need to continue to remember the people we know in our prayers. After all, if we have learnt anything during the last three months, it is that we, as human beings, need companionship, community and connection. If you can think of just three people to pray for each day, that would be good. Please be assured of my ongoing prayers for you all, and I look forward to the day (very soon, I hope), when we can meet again together to worship God in spirit and in truth. If you would like a call from me during the week, please do let Caroline know, or you can call me direct on the Rectory number. Gary Revd. • 12Th July 2020 - the 5Th Sunday After Trinity
Abberton, Bishampton, Flyford Flavell, Grafton Flyford, Naunton Beauchamp, North Piddle, Throckmorton The Flyfords Flyer The Flyfords Family of Churches News 12th July 2020 - The 5th Sunday After Trinity Dear Friends, I have been picking up a few interesting stories in the press recently about some really constructive initiatives that have been taken as a result of the easing of restrictions- these are heartening things, given the amount of suffering and heartache that have been present over the past few months. I'm sure that you will have spotted good stories too, but here are just a couple: £325,000 has been gathered and invested by the Diocese of Hereford in a city-centre church project to support young people, focusing on mental health and well-being. It seems that the hope and aim is to create a brand-new worshipping community, and to eventually provide learning and training for young people as Christian leaders in all occupations in the 21st century- quite a vision! The other is more rural in aspect, from the Badminton Benefice in Gloucestershire- it appears that on-line service attendance has risen 1300! percent after it went on to YouTube, and this method of weekly worship has been replicated all over the UK. Maybe you know of other stories locally? If you do, please let us know, via Caroline. Please be assured of my ongoing prayers for you all, and I look forward to the day (very soon, I hope), when we can meet again together to worship God in spirit and in truth. If you would like a call from me during the week, please do let Caroline know, or you can call me direct on the Rectory number.
