Stage and television actor Kate Jenkinson (The Wedge, Thank God You’re Here, Rush) will take on the role of Elaine Robinson and will be joined by West Australian theatre identities - Michelle Fornasier (Mrs Braddock), David Meadows (Mr Braddock) and Luke Hewitt (Mr Robinson) in this iconic piece of American pop culture. “A smart, sexy, funny new play” Independent on Sunday Performing on stage in Australia for the first time, Jerry Hall reclaims her role as the sexy, sultry Mrs Robinson. “Jerry Hall is cool, suave, sleek, languid, elegant and charismatic; which is all that Mrs Robinson should be” The Times “She makes a witty, sharp, drop-dead gorgeous Mrs Robinson” BBC London Live Besides her role as Mrs. Robinson, Ms. Hall has numerous theatre credits to her name, including originating the role of Sugar in Bud Shrake’s Benchmark, directed by Michael Rudman at the New End Theatre in Hampstead. She also has had roles in the U.S. and West End productions of Bus Stop, the West End productions of The Vagina Monologues and The Play What I Wrote. She was the guest star with the North American Tour of The Vagina Monologues in Austin, Texas, and toured England with Picasso’s Women, a 52-minute monologue. More recently Jerry performed in the West End hit production of Calendar Girls. American actor Rider Strong reunites with Jerry to perform the role of Benjamin Braddock. Rider has a strong background in television in the United States having performed in seven season of the ABC’s Boy Meets World. The pair also created a campaign commercial in support of Barack Obama that became the first political ad to air on Comedy Central. Adapted from Charles Webb’s novel and the Oscar award winning film, The Graduate is at once both a moving coming of age story and a terrifically funny black comedy. As relevant today as the day it was written, The Graduate is set against a soundtrack of some of the most memorable songs of the sixties including Wouldn’t It Be Nice by The Beach Boys, Everybody’s Talkin’ by Harry Nilsson and, of course, The Sound of Silence and Mrs Robinson by Simon and Garfunkel. He was 89. His wife, Irene Ramp, said his death, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, was caused by a heart attack.     Review by Andrew Sarris The Graduate has been adapted by Mike Nichols, Buck Henry, and Calder Willingham from a novel of the same title by Charles Webb. I like the movie much better than the book, but I had no idea how literally faithful the screenplay was to its source. Charles Webb seems to be the forgotten man in all the publicity, even though 80 percent or more of the dialogue comes right out of the book. I recently listened to some knowledgeable people parceling out writing credit to Nichols, Henry, and Willingham as if Webb had never existed, as if the quality of the film were predetermined by the quality of its script, and as if the mystique of the director counted for naught. These knowledgeable people should read the Webb novel, which reads more like a screenplay than any novel since John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men. Webb's book is almost all dialogue, with the intermittent straight prose passage functioning as visual tips for the director. That is not to say that Nichols, Henry, and Willingham are not entitled to their credits, but merely that their contributions pertain more to nuance than substance, more to the how than the what. The Graduate, more than Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is Mike Nichols' diploma as a director. Whereas Nichols merely transferred Albee, he actually transcends Webb. The Graduate is a director's picture not because Nichols wrote all the dialogue and acted out all the parts and sang and composed all the songs under the double pseudonym of Simon and Garfunkel and directed the cinematography under the alias of Robert Surtees, et cetera, ad infinitum, ad credit sheetum.

    Undercover Power Play One Friday afternoon in 1983 the phone rang. “Hi, is that Bill Smith? This is Mick Jagger.” Art designer, Bill smith, looked around his studio to see who the prankster was. It was no prank. It was Mick Jagger and he liked the work of Bill Smith Studio. Jagger asked Smith to make a meeting the next Monday and he did. Smith discussed ideas about the new album Undercover with Charlie Watts. Smith was asked to come up with some visuals by that Friday for a band meeting in New York City. Smith was met at JFK airport by a white stretch limo that dropped his stuff at the Central Plaza Hotel and then drove on to Jagger’s New York Residence for a meeting with Jagger, Watts, Ronnie Wood, and Bill Wyman. Smith said, “The cover idea they all loved was a montage of each guy’s head with the head of an animal or a bird or a reptile- ‘undercover’- do you see? I think I prepared two really good montages one of Mick and a cheetah and one of Keith and a panther, the other montages were very rough and needed a lot of work still, to make them really look good, but they all seemed to like the initial idea including the inner bag concept which was some amazing Victorian illustrations of different apple varieties…” Smith’s idea was resurrected in 1992 Jagger told Smith everyone loiked the idea but because by Albert Watson in Los Angeles Keith Richards was not at the meeting he asked Smith where Jagger was photographed with to stay in New York for a few days and complete al the a cheetah for the 25th anniversary of artwork for the album cover and its inner sleeves, while Rolling Stone magazine.
