Press release All Peter Lang English language titles in stock at Gardners Next working day availability of Peter Lang titles to retailers in the UK Berne, December 17, 2015 The Peter Lang Publishing Group, a leading international publisher of academic research in the humanities and social sciences has established a new agreement with Gardners Books. From now on, all newly published and backlist Peter Lang titles in the English language will be made available to the UK retail by Gardners Books. With publishing offices in Berne, Brussels, Frankfurt, New York, Oxford, Dublin, Vien- na and Warsaw, the group has a front list of app. 1800 new titles per year. In the past, Peter Lang books were distributed via the group’s own distribution centre in Switzer- land. By stocking more than 13’000 English language titles, Gardners greatly simpli- fies the purchase process for UK retailers and guarantees next working day availability of Peter Lang books in the UK. Press release Peter Lang announces Digital Preservation agreement Bern, July 20, 2017 Academic publishing group Peter Lang signed a contract on May 30, 2017 to store its entire collection of current and future eBooks and eJournals with Portico, a not-for-profit digital preservation and electronic archiving service. The partner- ship acts as an additional safety feature that digital content from Peter Lang is pre- served for the future. Peter Lang specialises in the Humanities and Social Sciences and has an active back- list of around 55,000 titles and 17 journals. Since 2010, all new titles – around 1,500 per year – are published as standard both in print and electronic formats. By plac- ing all primary source collections into Portico's digital preservation service, users have guaranteed access to the digital content they acquired from Peter Lang regard- less of ongoing technology changes. «Portico provides the broadest coverage for our clients and we are pleased to be able to guarantee access to the digital content that libraries worldwide use from Peter Lang,» says Kelly Shergill, CEO at Peter Lang. «Digital objects are fragile and digital preservation is an important component of our strategy. Imagined Germany: Richard Wagner's National Utopia, Second Edition
29 Hannu Hannu Salmi • Richard Wagner (1813–1883) has often been regarded as a symbol of “Germanness.” Despite this view, few studies have been undertaken regarding his nationalistic thinking. Imagined Germany focuses on Wagner’s idea of Deutschtum, especially during the unification of Germany, 1864–1871. Salmi discusses how Wagner defined Germanness, what stereotypes, ideas, and sentiments he attatched to it, and what kind of state could realize Wagner’s national Germany Imagined Hannu Salmi ideals. “Salmi makes an important contribution to our understanding of one of the most fascinating artistic figures in German politics and culture, particularly his political role.” Michael Meyer, California State University, Northridge Imagined Germany “Salmi lays forever to rest the myth, propagated by some of Wagner’s older apologists and by many of his more recent critics, that there existed a communality of interests between Wagner and Bismarck, as well as between the new ‘Reich’ and the Wagnerian cultural Richard Wagner’s enterprise.
