BALOO APPROVED CAMPSITES – CHEROKEE AREA COUNCIL #556

Yes, Cub Scouts can go camping!

When a boy and his family join Cub Scouting in your Cub Scout Pack, they join an organization that values the fun and excitement of experiencing the outdoors. Each Cub Scout Pack is encouraged to provide its youth members with enriching, positive outdoor activities. In addition to Cub Scout Day and Twilight Camps, Cub n Partner, Cub Scout Family Camp, and Webelos Resident Camp as part of your Pack’s annual plan, Pack family camping and/or overnighters can be an exciting addition to your Pack’s program.

Pack overnighters are Pack-organized overnight camping activities involving more than one family from your Pack, with the program focused on age-appropriate Cub Scout activities and conducted at a Council Approved Pack Camping Location. If siblings participate, the program must be structured to accommodate them.

This type of activity may well be the first time a Cub Scout and his family has experienced the fun and excitement of camping in the outdoors. Careful program planning and adherence to the BSA health and safety policies found in the “Guide to Safe Scouting” and BSA Youth Protection guidelines will assure a positive experience for you Pack, the Cub Scout, and his family.

Each youth member must be under the supervision and is the responsibility of a parent or guardian on the overnight. Adult leader(s) that are participating in the Pack overnighter or camping activity must complete Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO). BALOO trains participants to properly understand the importance of program intent and age appropriate activities, Youth Protection guidelines, health and safety, site selection, and sufficient adult participation. BSA Safe Swim Defense training is strongly recommended for any camping done at campsites that have swimming areas.

The following is a list of Council Approved camping areas that units have used in previous years. If a site that you choose is not on the list, then a Site Selection form must be filled out and submitted to the Council. If the site is outside of the Cherokee Area Council, a Tour Planning form must be submitted to the Council at least 2 weeks prior to the event.
