Betvictor Southern League Premier Division Central Saturday 24 BetVictor Southern League Premier Division Central Saturday 24 August 2019 Matchday programme £2 2 Boardley speaking... A warm welcome to you all back to Victory Road today where we host Tamworth for what no doubt will be another tough encounter, much like our last home game against Coalville that ended in a 1-1 draw. Since then, we have suffered two heavy away defeats that have identified a few issues that we have and are working on. In both games, we felt we were relatively comfortable in possession, but the main difference between ourselves and our opponents in the two defeats has been what happens off the ball. We were poor both Contents: positionally and in affording our opponents too 3 Boardley Speaking much time on the ball. Following the departure of several senior players at the end of last season the club is in transition with the emphasis on the development of its younger players. The current 1st team squad has only four players over the age of 25. Nonetheless, manager Stuart Boardley has set out his aims for the season which include a top half league finish, progress to the 4th Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, to the 1st Round of the FA Trophy and retaining the Suffolk Premier Cup. All these aims will be difficult to achieve with such a young and, at step 3 level, relatively inexperienced squad of players. The league position will possibly be the most challenging to achieve given the, generally, physical nature of the opposition. Ian Cornforth continues to take charge of the Thurlow Nunn Division 1 North side, again with the emphasis on youth development with the majority of the squad under 20. A repeat of last season’s 9th place finish and the highest placed reserve side in the league is this season’s aim. With so many of last season’s U16 EJA side staying with the club it was felt that for their development they needed to be playing more than in the Thurlow Nunn U18 side. It was recognised however that not all would be ready to step up to Ian’s side so the club have entered an “A” team in the Suffolk & Ipswich League starting in division 4. In addition to the work of the individual team coaches, all of these players will benefit from the coaching of Steve Foley who has re-joined the club from Needham Market and goalkeeping coach, Nigel Ling. The club is delighted that last season’s U14 EJA side will again be playing at the newly named “Watson & Hillhouse Victory Road Stadium” as U15s in the Eastern Junior Alliance and that they have been joined by an U13 side also playing in the EJA. These team play on a Sunday and despite their respective leagues being somewhat regionalised the distances they have to travel for, often, a 10:30 kick off demand a lot of commitment from both players and their parents. Continuing down the age groups it is encouraging to see the continued enthusiasm of the U12s & U10s who play on Saturday mornings with their home games on the old Middle School site. They can also be seen at some 1st team home games providing an honour guard for the players entering the pitch at the start of the game. The running of the club relies on its volunteers and it is fortunate to have a group of dedicated individuals who give up their time. However there is always room for more help, be it with fund raising, maintenance around the ground or on matchdays. If you can help in any way please don’t be backward in coming forward. In the first instance contact Peter Douglass, [email protected]. Please support your local club, Leiston FC. #weareaclub 7 CHAIRMAN’S CHATTER Good afternoon, everyone. A very warm Josh Nash. • Needham Market Football Club Welcome and Chairman's Notes
2 NEEDHAM MARKET FOOTBALL CLUB WELCOME AND CHAIRMAN’S NOTES Firstly, my welcome to the players, management team, committee and supporters of Bromsgrove Sporting and to the match officials for this Pitching In Southern Premier League Central Division home league fixture. Another disappointing result on Tuesday night when, after going 1-0 up with a great strike from Ben Fawkes after 15 mins and having much the better of the first half ,we couldn’t add to our lead and paid the price by conceding a breakaway goal in the second half and ended up drawing the match 1-1 in a game we should have won. We played some good football for much of the game and had some good chances – the best being those of Ben Fowkes and Andy Fennell in the second half. It was good to have Keiran Morphew back as captain and to welcome Callum Page back on loan from Ipswich. Byron Lawrence was my MOTM just ahead of Ben and Keiran. Looking back in the club’s history at the corresponding Saturday fixtures over the last 10 years there was no game last season due to Covid restrictions but two seasons ago, on 19th August 2019 we lost 1-0 away against Nuneaton Borough with Sam Squire MOTM. Three seasons ago, on 18th August 2018 we lost 2-0 at home to Barwell with Jake Dye MOTM. Four seasons ago, on 19th August 2017 we lost 1-0 at home against Wingate in our last season in the Isthmian Premier League with Danny Gay getting MOTM.

  • Needham Market Football Club Welcome and Chairman's Notes
2 NEEDHAM MARKET FOOTBALL CLUB WELCOME AND CHAIRMAN’S NOTES Firstly, my welcome to the players, management team, committee, and supporters of St Ives Town and to the match officials for this FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round match. Unfortunately, the new season has continued in a frustrating fashion with two more defeats – losing 1-0 at home against Bromsgove Sporting two weeks ago and then 2-0 away last Saturday against Coalville. Both were games we should have won – not just my opinion but those of our opponents’ directors after the games! We are playing well – our performance in the game at Coalville on Saturday was our best of the season – we dominated possession and for most of the game we were by far the better side – but two mistakes in the final five minutes of the first half saw us go in 2-0 down at half time and, despite numerous chances, we just could not score which has been our problem in all four of our games so far this season. Hopefully this will change in today’s Emirates FA Cup game, and we can take a victory (as well as the £2,250 prize money) into the next round and into our next league game next Saturday away against Banbury Utd. Looking back in the club’s history at the corresponding Saturday fixtures over the last 10 years there were no games played last year owing to Covid restrictions, but I see that two seasons ago on 7th September 2019 we drew 1- 1 in the 1st Qualifying Round of the FA Cup away against Dereham with Dan Morphew MOTM and Luke Ingram scoring.
