A direção desta produção australiana ficou a cargo da atriz e argumentista Mirrah Foulkes (‘Reino Animal’, ‘The Turning’ e séries ‘All Saints’, ‘Top of the Lake’). -

The Video Dating Tape of Desmondo Ray, Aged 33 & 3/4, which screened at SXSW 2014 and St Kilda Film Festival 2014, is by writer-director Steve Baker, a previous Tropfest and AFI Award winner. This darkly funny short film portrays Raymond, a loner with a penchant for peeing in the rain, as a likeable, if not likely, dating prospect. Also funny and touching is Love In The Time Of March Madness - a ‘tall short’ about a 6’4” woman whose success on the basketball court is at odds with her luck in love. -

Nominees for Election
128th Annual Council of the Diocese of Southern Virginia Nominees for Election Standing Committee The Standing Committee is composed of three members of the clergy and three members of the laity. It acts as a Council of Advice to the Bishop and assumes many Episcopal duties for the diocese if there is a vacancy in the Bishop’s Office, as outlined in the Diocesan Constitution Article XV, Diocesan Canon V and in the Canons of the National Church. Lay Nominees, one to be elected. Rusty Bishop, St. Timothy’s, Clarksville I have been a member of the Episcopal Church since 1994, initially in the Diocese of Washington (EDOW) and then the Diocese of Southern Virginia when I transferred membership to St. Timothy's, Clarksville, in 2015. I had attended St. Timothy's part time (twice monthly) since 2004 until my retirement and move to Clarksville in 2015. While a member of the EDOW, I served 12 years on parish Vestry, numerous years as delegate to Convention, 6 years on Standing Committee (2005-2011), and 3 years on the Disciplinary Board (2011-2014). I attended the 2009 General Convention as an Alternate Lay Deputy. Since transferring membership to St. Timothy's I have served as the delegate to Council and on the Vestry. I have also served a term on the Executive Board as the lay representative for Convocation 9, and on the Disciplinary Committee. I have served with the Credentials Committee for the past several Councils, including the special Council for the election of the Bishop. Recently I was appointed to the Commission on Ministry. -
Racial Tragedy, Australian History, and the New Australian Cinema: Fred Schepisi's the Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith Revisited
FILMHISTORIA Online Vol. 28, núms. 1-2 (2018) · ISSN: 2014-668X Racial Tragedy, Australian History, and the New Australian Cinema: Fred Schepisi’s The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith Revisited ROBERT J. CARDULLO University of Michigan Abstract The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith (1978) broke ground in its native country for dealing bluntly with one of the most tragic aspects of Australian history: the racist treatment of the aboriginal population. Adapted faithfully from the 1972 novel by Thomas Keneally, the film concerns a young man of mixed race in turn-of-the-century Australia who feels torn between the values and aspirations of white society, on the one hand, and his aboriginal roots, on the other, and who ultimately takes to violence against his perceived white oppressors. This essay re-views The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith from the following angles: its historical context; its place in the New Australian Cinema; its graphic violence; and the subsequent careers of the film’s director, Fred Schepisi, and its star, Tommy Lewis. Keywords: The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith; Fred Schepisi; Thomas Keneally; New Australian Cinema; racism and colonialism Prior to the late 1970s, Australia was something of a cinematic backwater. Occasionally, Hollywood and British production companies would turn up to use the country as a backdrop for films that ranged from the classic (On the Beach [1959]) to the egregious (Ned Kelly [1970], starring Mick Jagger). But the local movie scene, for the most part, was sleepy and unimaginative and very few Australian films traveled abroad. Then, without warning, Australia suddenly experienced an efflorescence of imaginative filmmaking, as movies such as Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975), The Getting of Wisdom (1977), My Brilliant Career (1979), and Breaker Morant (1980) began to be shown all over the world. -

Dissertation presented to the Faculty of Arts of the University of Glasgow in fulfilment of the requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy University of Glasgow March 1996 Page 2 Abstract Academic work on Aboriginality in popular media has, understandably, been largely written in defensive registers. Aware of horrendous histories of Aboriginal murder, dispossession and pitying understanding at the hands of settlers, writers are worried about the effects of raced representation; and are always concerned to identify those texts which might be labelled racist. In order to make such a search meaningful, though, it is necessary to take as axiomatic certain propositions about the functioning of films: that they 'mean' in particular and stable ways, for example; and that sophisticated reading strategies can fully account for the possible ways a film interacts with audiences. -
