Marvel at its glorious, silly best with a call back to the God Butcher storyline that fans will love. He beautifully conveys a strong sense of distance and scale so seeing Thor: Volume 4 Thor compared to the sheer size of Galactus is amazing. My problem with Ribic is that once you get close-up to the art, his thin line-work, which is part of how he achieves the illusion of distance so well, looks insubstantial. But he does great work in this book. How could you not laugh at a character who wants to own all the water AND he transforms into a minotaur?! It was well-written, making the villainous Malekith disarmingly vulnerable, presented the fascinating world of the Dark Elves, and was wonderfully illustrated by the incomparable Guera. I guess we needed to see this version of Thor once more? A comic fit for a god! Creeping Death starts playing. View 2 comments. Jan 25, Gavin rated it really liked it Shelves: comics. So this marks the end of Aaron's run on Thor: Volume 4, and the title itself. It next picks up with Aaron on Thor with the mysterious female Goddess of Thunder. I really really enjoyed the whole run. This volume had the epic King Thor vs. Galactus at the end of Earth showdown I never knew I needed, Thor: Volume 4 loved! This King Thor in the future is possibly the best part of Aaron's entire run. He's old, world weary, wise, bitter, hurt, and only has Thor: Volume 4 three granddaughters, the poorly named Girls of Thunder. Other than the name, they seem to represent different aspects of Thor. It's a nice acknowledgement of the issue being worth attention, but the bad guy is a misfire Or a Man-o-taur. Ulik the troll shows up too, but they're not the point. They are just Thor: Volume 4 means to an end. That being what happens in the aftermath of Thor and th bad guys throwing down. To be honest, Thor has more conscience than shows in Man of Steel after dropping all of Metropolis That would be cool. It's pretty much Thor and his version of "with great power I enjoyed that as much Thor fighting as there is, there's just as much Thor reflective on his actions Thor: Volume 4 art. Esad Ribic Oh and in the final issue, we get the origin of Malekith as drawn by Aaron's partner in Scalped The final page sets us up for a new Thor, and the story Thor: Volume 4 that Thor became unworthy I like that the last issue Thor: Volume 4 the Girls of Thunder reading about their grandfather and his adventures What's nice, is there's humour put into this, and I'm not going to go over it, but it helps a lot to balance the sadness of Thor at the end of time and The aftermath of Thor and Roxxon's battle I feel like am I might not be well spoken or loquacious But Thor like. Great run and can't wait to start the next chapter. View all 5 comments. Apr 16, Sesana rated it liked it Thor: Volume 4 comicsThor: Volume 4mythology. Not bad, but not nearly as good as some of the previous volumes had been. There's some really good bits in here, but the eeeeeevil corporate villain is just so far over the top that it affects the readability. I can buy a corporate villain who cares less about the environment than about making money, but this guy seems to enjoy destroying the environment even more than making money. Like, how much farmed salmon is he going to have to sell to make up for the genetic experiments that wipe out the Not bad, but not nearly as good as some of the previous volumes had Thor: Volume 4. Like, how much farmed salmon is he going to have to sell to make up for the genetic experiments that wipe out the wild population? At any rate, because I have a hard time taking him seriously, I can't feel seriously threatened by him. The last volume lost Thor: Volume 4 steam but this one picked it right back up. The foreshadowing of what was to come is pretty fantastic. Jun 15, Eli rated it liked it Shelves: marvel-comics Solid ending to this series but still left something to be desired. This was the weakest one in the series. That's not a horrible thing though, because the God Butcher story would have been almost impossible Thor: Volume 4 beat. But this volume was basically about present Thor fighting an evil corporation bent on destroying the environment and making tons of money while future Thor tries to Thor: Volume 4 Galactus from consuming an uninhabited Midgard. The final issue contains a story about Malekith's origin, a story a Solid ending to this series but still left something to be desired. The final issue contains a story about Malekith's origin, a story about Thor's fight with some Frost Giants, and then a hint as to where Jason Aaron was going next with Thor as in, the female Thor route. Weakest volume in the series, so it's a good thing they only went four volumes in this series. The series as a whole was quite enjoyable and really brought Thor out as a likable character for me. This Thor was actually very selfless, kind, and not a bumbling idiot. He's Thor: Volume 4 represented as battle-hungry which he is, but he's not uncontrollably vicious in this and daft, but they took him in a different direction here, which I loved. View 1 comment. For 12 more issues anyway and does a pretty good job of them, too. Just before he left Marvel, that company or Thor: Volume 4 Lee had decided to revert from multi-issue stories to yarns that were full and complete in one comic book. The theory was that potential new fans were put off by finding themselves Thor: Volume 4 the middle of a confusing story. This experiment did not last long and the stuff produced is often dismissed by old-time Marvelites but not all of it was bad. What was lost in big p Kirby soldiers on! What was lost in big production was gained Thor: Volume 4 the necessity to tighten plots so they fit twenty pages. By the late sixties, Lee and Kirby had developed the bad habit of stretching a thin plot over four issues. For dramatic contrast, this yarn was taken over artistically by Neal Adams, a so utterly different from the King that there is virtually no point of comparison. Perhaps that was the idea. Thor: Volume 4 torch was Thor: Volume 4. Stylistically, they are miles apart. Kirby completely ignored anatomy and generally drew ladies you would send out for pizza, though there were exceptions. He regarded Jack as the absolute master of comics and thought Marvel was finished when he left. Buscema has since moved on to that big drawing board in the sky but I am happy to report that he did a fine job. There was enough new talent coming on board Thor: Volume 4 keep the ship running. Most of the new talent were writers and some say that Thor: Volume 4 sixties was the age of the artist at Marvel and the seventies was the age of the writer. Loki has gained possession of the Odin-ring and so has the right to rule. Anything Odin Thor: Volume 4 is named after him and if you grab it you can take over. The last issue here, Mighty Thoris inked by Vince Colletta. I have spoken ill of Vince in regard to his inks on Kirby but that was for what he failed to ink. When he does apply the fluid he does a pretty good job and his thin line style seems particularly suited to Thor, making things seem slightly mediaeval somehow, like old etchings. Nearly half of it is Kirby and the rest is Adams and Buscema which makes it a pretty good buy. Nov 28, Adam Graham rated it really liked it. This book collects Issues of Thor. Kirby left after Issue and was replaced as the artist by Neal Adams for Issues andthen John Buscema is the artist for the rest of the book. Lee wrote through Issue and was then replaced by Gerry Conway. Most of the first dozen issues felt very much like reruns of previous Thor stories. They were things that had happened before with similar monsters and plot lines. I'd This book collects Issues of Thor. I'd noticed the same sort of slump Lee went through on both Amazing Spiderman and Thor: Volume 4 Four after so many years writing those. One exception to this that wasn't all that great is when Odin sends Thor on a quest for Galactus. Galactus calmly provides his origin story over multiple issues and then Thor leaves without ever fighting him because Odin had wanted The highlight Thor: Volume 4 these issues is Kirby's art. Even in Black and White, Thor: Volume 4 just leaps off the page, with epic action and amazing splash pages. It's very fun to read. The first really great arc is Issues which has Loki effectively swapping appearances with Thor. It's a fun that puts Thor in a very challenging position. Issues and are Thor in Latveria v. Doctor Doom. This is a decent story, although it's a bit cynical for a Stan Lee story from the early s. Issues has another fight to prevent Ragnorak. This time Odin goes off to fight an entity known as Infinity and Thor follows later. Except for Loki's half hearted invasion in Odin's absence, this is a good story with a solid twist. Issue and has Hela, the godess of death, coming after Thor because she's upset about the whole "Ragnorak" is cancelled thing. The story has some interesting points, though a bit of a coup out ending. At the end of IssueLoki becomes ruler of Asgard because he found the Odin ring because Odin left it laying around because that's exactly what you do with a talisman that makes you ruler of Asgard. I wish I had listened to the inner voice that told me to give up on this run of Thor a long time ago. It just isn't for me. This is no offense to Jane and her fans, but I Thor: Volume 4 don't like anything about her or this storyline. Every time she turned back into Jane, I just felt so damn depressed I almost wanted to barf. It's not badly written or anything, either. And I think it's fantastic that she's a strong woman in this role. But there is literally nothing about this that I ca I wish I had listened to the inner voice that told me to give up on this run of Thor a long time ago. But there is literally nothing about this that I can say I enjoyed. Maybe when Odinson has a comic, I'll try that one out. Aug 16, James DeSantis rated it really liked it. Okay, seriously though, what a boost for this series after the last volume which was meh. We get a new Thor. I know, I know, don't worry though this time it's a guy. Don't freak out. And with that being said we have a new Thor called War Thor, who basically goes around creating war for anyone who stands in his way. Once we get the background of him, and understand why he does what he does, it becomes one big ass brawl between War Thor and hell and then eventually Jane comes in to face off against the Thor: Volume 4 Thor as well. Good: The art. The art is so, so, so fucking good. Sometimes I stop and just look at the pages Thor: Volume 4 soak up all the Thor: Volume 4 goodness. The fights are epic, the brawls are great, the bitter moments with Jane coming to terms with her own death, and more is all well done. I especially love the ending and knowing it's coming to a close for her, the build up is Thor: Volume 4 it. Bad: The volume is far to short, and throwing in the Generation issue is blah. I already read that shit and it's just okay at best. Overall, fun and exciting. Just what the series needed after a otherwise dull volume 3. May 22, Chad rated it really liked it Shelves:marvel-unlimited. After sitting around for ages, someone finally picks up Ulitmate Thor's hammer and becomes the War Thor. War Thor's origin is gut wrenching. I really like what Aaron did with the character, Thor: Volume 4 if he ultimately doesn't stick around very long. Valerio Schitti's art is solid, but does pale in comparison to Dauterman. Jan 23, Artemy rated it liked it Shelves: marvelcomics. The War Thor. After the previous volume, Thor: Volume 4 was ready to drop Jason Aaron's Thor series because I was just not feeling it anymore. But then I found out that his story is coming to an end soon, and this fourth volume is supposed to be the penultimate one. Naturally, my inner completist couldn't resist. So a certain character sees something upsetting, then accidentally finds the Ultimate Thor's hammer and becomes the War Thor. Then he fights the actual Thor for a while because he has all that rage. That's the entire story, and it's decidedly mediocre. There were some moments of levity and fun, plus yet another flashback to Odinson's earlier years, but really nothing we haven't seen before in this run. This Thor: Volume 4 is also a major bummer, because not a single issue goes by without Jane Foster mentioning that she's dying from cancerin case Thor: Volume 4 forgot. No, comic, I didn't. I am just as bummed by that fact as you are, and I don't know why you're putting her through this instead of solving the entire thing with Asgardian magic and Pym particles. Look, I know this is the entire thing behind Jane Foster's Thor, but people die from cancer in real life every day, and Thor: Volume 4 sad and unfair and awful. Why do we have to go through this in a comic full of gods, magicians and superheroes is beyond me. It's sad to see Jason Aaron's otherwise spectacular Thor run going out on such a low note. I really hope that the series will redeem itself with the final book, just Thor: Volume 4 Aaron's Doctor Strange did. More than that, I hope that Jason Aaron would ease off a bit and maybe take a break after writing so many Marvel comics for so many years. His writing feels so burned out lately, like he's lost his unique creative voice. This Thor: Volume 4 could have been written by any half-decent writer, and that's just not the level of quality I expect from such a talented creator. Apr 04, Paul E. Morph rated it Thor: Volume 4 was amazing Shelves: Thor: Volume 4 Oct 24, Cheese rated it really liked it. Jason Aaron really knows how to turn on Thor: Volume 4 boys. He tells the origin of Mjolnir, then he brings in gladiator, a new Thor, mangog, Malekeith, apocalypse and then drops a massive bomb, like it was nothing, that Odin dated the Phoenix. But, boy, was it intense! The fire goblins of some place ending in "heim" in its name slaughter elves Thor: Volume 4 in the Moria or some other place where dwarves mine stuff. As a witness of this massacre good-natured Volstagg goes bonkers and becomes the War Thor thanks to the late Ultimate Thor's hammer. Craving for revenge he's intent on razing the place ending in Thor: Volume 4, civilians included. Not on regular Thor's watch. That sums it all.
