Analysis on the Difference: Facts Or Myths in and Cultures

Presenter Information: The deaf author hailed from the Washington, D. C. metro area, She was raised in the adopted military family who knew all her life and put her Deaf Education as a priority. She also is the birth daughter of Mickie Jones, the 70's icon musician and Jessie, the Head Librarian of Adult Services. She attended both State Deaf Schools and the mainstream programs. In 1989, she graduated from Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD) in D. C. She also has completed Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management with University of Phoenix in 2006. Currently, she is now in the Graduate program with Goucher College focusing on Cultural Sustainability Studies. With her Deaf Studies and History of Deaf Education research, consulting, and writing skills, she can lend support!

Workshop Description & Objectives: This workshop’s goal is to understand the difference between facts and myths on Deaf history and cultures. The presenter will demonstrate how to properly and successfully research and will give everybody opportunity to learn how to check accurately on history of Deaf education and other information. Examples and facts will be shared that encompass the Deaf history and culture of Michigan. Brockway will share her findings and research in a fun and interactive way. This workshop is designed for teachers and others who are active in sharing information about Deaf history and cultures and working within it.
