    Gilberto Santa Rosa El Caballero de la Salsa Gilberto Santa Rosa reveló su vínculo inquebrantable con la música a muy temprana edad. Nacido en el pueblo de Carolina, Puerto Rico, sus estudios primarios los cursó en la escuela elemental Ángel Ramos, donde tuvo sus primeras apariciones artísticas. En esa época, su corta edad no lo apartaba de la fuerte oferta salsera de los años 60. Seguro de sus aspiraciones musicales, en su adolescencia se sumó a la matrícula de la Escuela Libre de Música de San Juan y aunque se formó en el saxofón y trompeta, su anhelo de cantar era el objetivo. Fue el 6 de enero de 1975 (13 años) cuando se presentó como vocalista en un especial navideño. Para 1976 graba como cantante de la orquesta del destacado trompetista Mario Ortiz. En el asomo de 1981, guiado por sus inquietudes artísticas, se une a la orquesta de Willie Rosario. Este movimiento lo consolidó como una de las nuevas voces de la salsa tanto en Puerto Rico como en el mercado internacional. (May 14, 2021) – Newark will be filled with music again this summer as NJPAC’s much-loved free outdoor concert series, Horizon Foundation Sounds of the City, returns with in-person performances on the Arts Center’s Chambers Plaza starting July 15. Felix Hernandez’ Rhythm Revue Dance Party kicks off the seven-week series, which will spotlight a diverse array of musicians and genres, including hip hop legends Eric B. & Rakim, salsa star Tony Vega, reggae headliners Third World and gospel songstress Le’Andria Johnson. The concerts will be presented with an array of new safety protocols, to allow audience members to enjoy the music, mingling and dancing that’s made this annual event so popular, while keeping patrons, artists and Arts Center staff healthy. “Sounds of the City is a legacy series in Newark; for more than 20 years, this is how the city has celebrated summer,” said NJPAC Executive Vice President and Executive Producer David Rodriguez. “This year, what we’re celebrating is not just the season but also the return of live performances to Newark.
