E-mail: [email protected] Abstract: The bio-chemical and physical characteristics of a river are directly affected by water temperature, which therefore affects the overall health of aquatic ecosystems. In this study, long term variations of river water temperatures (RWT) in Kupa River watershed, Croatia were investigated. It is shown that the RWT in the studied river stations in- creased about 0.0232–0.0796ºC per year, which are comparable with long term observations reported for rivers in other regions, indicating an apparent warming trend. RWT rises during the past 20 years have not been constant for different periods of the year, and the contrasts between stations regarding RWT increases vary seasonally. Additionally, multi- layer perceptron neural network models (MLPNN) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS) models were implemented to simulate daily RWT, using air temperature (Ta), flow discharge (Q) and the day of year (DOY) as predic- tors.

Gorski kotar Dear Friends, Welcome to Gorski Kotar, the mountainous part of Croatia in the hinterland of Kvarner. Waiting for you, at only thirty kilometres from the sea, are lush centuries old forests, clear rivers and lakes, an underworld of caves, rich flora and fauna and a healthy climate where the sea and mountains connect… It is an ideal spot for a holiday all year round: spring and autumn are transfused with green, green-yellow and brown shades, summer is always pleasant with fresh and beautiful days, and winter with dazzling snow covering the hushed mountains… Escape from the city’s hustle and bustle and stressful way of life with an active holiday or, simply discover that there still exists a place where you can let yourself go and enjoy the charms of preserved nature – a real discovery… Here is also located one of Croatia’s eight national parks – the Risnjak National Park which takes its name from the unique ‘large European cat’ – the lynx, and offers undiscovered treasures of forests, meadows, streams, rivers, mountain peaks and rare flora and fauna… In Gorski Kotar you can find very impressive caves – th “Vrelo” cave in Fužine and “Lokvarka” cave in Lokve. There are also very beautiful nature attractions as The Devil Passage in Skrad, Kamačnik canyon in Vrbovsko, Golubinjak forest in Lokve, artificial lakes in Fužine, Lokve and Mrzla Vodica, then the Kupa river spring, the highest village in Croatia – Begovo Razdolje -1.060 meters above the sea level, mountain peaks like Risnjak, Bjelolasica, Viševica, Bijele i Samarske stijene (rocks). Croatia can be mainly subdivided in the northern Illyric and even Pannonian influenced part with Drava and Sava and the Karst and Mediterranean part in the south where the drainage network considerably decrease. The Drava river is modified just downstream of SI complementing the chain of hydropower plants in AT and SI. Further downstream the river still host valuable river stretches in particular in its middle course and upstream of Osijek, however peak power with daily changing water levels and regular sediment extraction (and retention of gravel in the chain of dams further upstream) leading to channel incision impacting the river as typical for most of the major Balkan rivers.

Nat. Croat., Vol. 24, No. 1, 93–109, 2015, Zagreb In this paper an annotated checklist of Croatian riffle beetles is presented. It is a result of a literature review, revision of museum collections, implementation of results from various environmental impact and baseline studies, as well as field investigations throughout Croatia from 2002–2013. Altogether 23 species in eight genera of Elmidae were identified. Five species are new for the Croatian fauna: Elmis rioloides (Kuwert 1890), Esolus angustatus (Müller 1821), E. pygmaeus (Müller 1806), Oulimnius tuberculatus (Müller 1806) and Stenelmis consobrina Dufour 1835. Furthermore, the occurrence of Elmis aenea (Müller 1806) in Croatia is confirmed. Keywords: Insecta, Coleoptera, Elmidae, riffle beetles, first records, freshwater, water beetles Mičetić Stanković, V., Jäch, M.A. & Kučinić, M.: Popis slapoljuba (Insecta: Coleoptera: Elmidae) Hrvatske s napomenama. Nat. Croat., Vol. 24, No. 1, 93–109, 2015, Zagreb U ovom je radu dat popis slapoljuba Hrvatske s napomenama o njihovoj biologiji i staništima u Hrvatskoj.
