GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Mt. 20:17-28) The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day." Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him, with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something. And he said to her, "What do you want?" She said to him, "Command that these two sons of mine may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom." But Jesus answered, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?" They said to him, "We are able." He said to them, "You will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father." And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers. But Jesus called them to him and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave; even as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." REFLECTION: An early church father summed up Jesus' teaching with the expression "to serve is to reign with Christ". We share in God’s reign by laying down our lives in humble service of one another as Jesus did for our sake. Are you ready to lay down your life and to serve others as Jesus did? PRAYER: Lord Jesus, make me a servant of love for your kingdom that I may seek to serve rather than be served. Amen.

MISSIONVISION “Inspired by our faith in God, by our Catholic traditions and by the charism of St. John Baptist de La Salle educational innovator par excellence, we together and by association are committed to give quality human and Christian to all building a society founded on equity and justice and on sustainable and inclusive development.”

From BULIK The Official Publication of the Junior High School Behind every page of a BULIK newspaper lies beneath the story of the people who made it possible. But the question is, did you know how the name BULIK, came to be? Most of the time, graduation comes but students still do not know the legacy that BULIK upholds every year. In celebration of the golden year of the publication, below are some facts that will fill you with knowledge about the history of BULIK. The first classes in De La Salle Lipa were held on Wednesday, June 6, 1962. A month after, on Monday, July 2, 1962, the first Activity Period called for students interested in working for the school newspaper. The response was very encouraging as a large number reported to the library for future assignments. The first school paper was called the LipaSallian, which had its roots from ’s The LaSallian. The name change came during the term of Br. Rafael Donato as Director and Principal in 1968. Underneath the coconut trees and among the horses in the grounds of the school were a number of bulik native chickens. The late brother wanted to highlight these Lipa symbols in all of the school’s publications. Bulik, the ubiquitous creature in Lipa, symbolized grandeur, stamina and determination. This became the official DLSL publication’s nameplate. In its fifty years, BULIK- a group young journalists, writers and radio broadcasters-has engraved its name in many division, regional and national writing competitions, and this continues to be a proof of its desire not just to walk graciously in its vicinity but to fly beyond its limits. FROM THE VCM – SPORTS DIRECTORATE: 1. During the NCAA South meeting with the policy board (DLSL is represented by Dr. Eric Martinez and Ms. Emily Babasa), schools whose NCAA South scheduled is at the same date with major exams, will request for a parallel schedule of exam and will push through with the game. This is decided because of the difficulty to convene a game schedule in a particular sports tournament period because each school has different exam schedule due to different academic calendar of member schools. Regarding this, please excuse our selected HS Football Boys athletes from their classes (JHS) / taking the scheduled exam today because of their prior schedule of NCAA-South. Concerned SHS students will take the exams during the parallel test. High School Football Boys Coach: Mr. Oliver R.
