From our founding in 1999 until May 2013, Jack served as our chairman and chief executive officer. He is also the founder of the Zhejiang-based Jack Ma Foundation. Jack currently serves on the board of SoftBank Corp., a Japanese corporation listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. He is also a member of the Foundation Board of the World Economic Forum, a member of the board of the Breakthrough Energy Ventures, chairman of the Zhejiang Chamber of Commerce, as well as chairman of the China Entrepreneur Club. In January 2016, he was named a Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) advocate by the United Nations. In September 2016, he was named special adviser of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) for Youth Entrepreneurship and Small Business, which holds the rank of assistant secretary-general of the United Nations. Jack graduated from Hangzhou Teacher's Institute with a major in English language education. Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi, EGH, PhD Secretary General, UNCTAD Mukhisa Kituyi , of Kenya, who became UNCTAD's seventh Secretary-General on 1 September 2013, has an extensive background as an elected official, an academic, and a holder of high government office. He also has wide-ranging experience in trade negotiations, and in African and broader international economics and diplomacy. He was born in Bungoma District, western Kenya, in 1956. He studied political science and international relations at the University of Nairobi and at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, receiving a BA in 1982. He went on to earn an MPhil in 1986 and a doctorate in 1989 from the University of Bergen, Norway. Dr. Kituyi served as a researcher at Norway's Christian Michelsen Institute from 1989 to 1991, and as Programme Director of the African Centre for Technology Studies in Nairobi from 1991 to 1992. He was elected to the Kenyan Parliament in 1992, and was twice re-elected. He was Kenya's Minister of Trade and Industry from 2002 to 2007. During this period, Dr. Kituyi chaired for two years the Council of Ministers of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the African Trade Ministers' Council. He also served as chairman of the Council of Ministers of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States, and was lead negotiator for Eastern and Southern African ministers during the European Union-ACP Economic Partnership Agreement negotiations. He was convenor of the agriculture negotiations carried out at the World Trade Organization's Sixth Ministerial Conference held in Hong Kong, China in 2005. 2 From 2008 to 2012, Dr. Kituyi was a member of a team of experts advising the presidents of the nations of the East African Community on how to establish more effective regional economic links. From 2011 to 2012, he was a consultant for the African Union Commission, where he helped to develop the structure for a pan-African free trade area. Immediately prior to becoming Secretary-General, Dr. Kituyi was Chief Executive of the Kenya Institute of Governance, based in Nairobi. The Institute is a think tank and advocacy organization that focuses on linking academic research and the development of public policy. During 2012, Dr. Kituyi also served as a non-resident fellow of the Africa Growth Initiative of the Brookings Institution, Washington, D.C. He was a resident scholar there in 2011. Dr. Kituyi is married and has four children. Hon. Adan Mohammed Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Hon. Adan Mohamed is the Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of Industry, Trade and Co-operatives. Prior to this appointment, he was the Chief Administrative Officer for Barclays Africa, with responsibility for ten (10) Barclay’s Bank subsidiaries in Africa. In addition, he was responsible for Brand & Marketing, Corporate Communications and Citizenship across Barclays Africa businesses. Hon. Adan Mohamed performed various senior roles in Barclays including CEO of Barclays Kenya for over 10 years, and Managing Director – Barclays East and West Africa since 2008. He also worked in senior Finance roles in Barclays Bank. Prior to joining Barclays, he worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers (London) in the Management Consultancy and Business Advisory Services. His international career has seen him serve in the UK, US and Africa. He has also served in many other capacities both in private and public sector in Kenya, including: Chairman of Kenya Bankers Association, Member of the Kenya National Economic and Social Council (NESC), and as the Chairman of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) amongst others. Hon. Mohamed received Presidential recognition and was bestowed the Elder of the Golden Heart (EGH) Award for his leading role and distinguished service in both the private and public sector. Hon. Adan Mohamed is an MBA graduate from Harvard Business School and an alumni of the University of Nairobi, Kenya where he graduated with a First Class Honors degree in Commerce (Accounting option). He is also a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). Bob Collymore CEO, Safaricom Limited Is a Guyanan-born British businessman currently living and working in Kenya. He is currently the chief executive officer of Safaricom, a multinational telecommunications company. From 1993, Collymore worked in various positions in the telecommunications industry in the UK, including work for Cellnet, Dixons Retail and Vodafone UK. In 2003 he moved to Japan to manage the integration of J-Phone into the Vodafone Group. In 2006 he became the governance director for Africa at Vodafone and subsidiary Safaricom. In 2010 he was appointed Chief executive officer of Safaricom. Ms. Carole Kariuki, MBS Chief Executive Officer, KEPSA Carole Kariuki holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Sociology from the University of Nairobi and a Masters Degree in Public Administration and International Affairs from Bowling Green State University, Ohio, USA. She has also pursued several professional courses on Public-Private Sector Dialogue, Global Leadership and Private Sector Development among others. Ms. Kariuki has a wealth of experience in leadership having worked for Barclays Bank of Kenya, Nairobi Chapel and Sagamore Institute for Public Policy Research, Indianapolis – Indiana, where she acted as a liaison between Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) and the institute before formally joining KEPSA. She worked for several years at KEPSA before being appointed KEPSA CEO. Ms. Kariuki is credited for transforming KEPSA from a little known Business Institution to one of the most influential institutions in Kenya and Globally. She is a member of several professional bodies including, The Rotary Club of Langata, Kenya Institute of Management and Institute of Directors.
