Landscape services are crucial for the social and economic development and vital activities of human beings. Landscapes produce goods and services in the industry needs as well as that are directly needed by the individual in the cities and in the countryside. In this study, Çankırı, Ilgaz Region landscape services are analysed and defined in multifunctional way which are based on the basin scale. Then, qualitative and quantitative surveys were conducted to determine the priorities and significance for the Ilgaz Region and the priority services were identified. "Landscape function" is the capacity of goods and services that are provided to society by landscape. These goods and services consist of natural and cultural services such as plants benefits like timber, fuel etc., landscape aesthetics, habitats, water regulation [14, 27]. The capacity of landscape goods and services do not show the equal distribution but it depends on the interactions between spatial and temporal and socio-economic and biophysical diversity of landscape [14, 40, 33, 41]. Landscape, as defined in the European Landscape Convention [10], is a holistic approach with spatial and mental dynamic assets, and the result of people-place interactions [6, 7, 36]. • Assessing Potential Areas of Ecotourism Through a Case Study in Ilgaz Mountain National Park
Chapter 5 Assessing Potential Areas of Ecotourism through a Case Study in Ilgaz Mountain National Park Mehmet Cetin and Hakan Sevik Additional information is available at the end of the chapter http://dx.doi.org/10.5772/62573 Abstract The changing demands of tourism provide greater benefits to tourists and generate competitive advantages that develop diversity in tourism. Elements of ecotourism fit within this context, and such tourism includes, but is not limited to, activities such as visiting natural and cultural resources without destroying nature, which are carried out with an aim toward sustainability. Ilgaz Mountain has a wealth of natural, cultural, historical, and recreational features, and its location near the Black Sea gives the area significant tourism potential. In order to evaluate the impact, potential, and possibili‐ ties of ecotourism in this protected area, we used geographic information systems (GIS) to determine the nature of protection required based on implementation availability. In this study, we used ecology-based identification of the natural and cultural values to characterize the features. The study consists of four parts: (1) the concept of ecotourism, (2) discussion of sustainable growth of tourism, (3) sustainability of ecotourism using GIS and how this is related to sustainable ecotourism in protected areas, such as in Turkey, (4) results and evaluation. By assessing these results, we aim to determine potential areas for ecotourism in terms of sustainable development, and we expect the results to provide useful ideas for further research. Keywords: Ecotourism potentials, Impacts, Possibilities, Protected area, Sustainabili‐ ty, SWOT 1. Introduction Ecotourism is an abbreviation of ecological tourism, which refers to understanding and protecting the freedom of tourism in nature.

Among those, ursids and canids are represented by brown bear (Ursus arctos) and 3 canid species, gray wolf (Canis lupus), golden jackal (Canis aureus), and red fox (Vulpes vulpes), respectively. Those species occur in major ecosystems of Turkey and experience a wide range of threats, and they are at the center of human– wildlife conflicts. However, due to a limited number of studies about their ecology and taxonomy, their current distributions, population sizes, and statuses are vague. In this study, we document the 4 species’ known data in terms of distribution range, population biology, phylogeography, threats and conflicts with people, and National Red List status in Turkey by reviewing the recent literature and national news about carnivores, data collection in field surveys, and interviews with local people, personnel of the Ministry of Forestry, and hunters in more than 50 provinces.

Prof. Dr. Mustafa Arslan Selcuk University Beyúehir Ali Akkanat Faculty of Tourism [email protected] Doi:10.5901/jesr.2014.v4n4p455 Abstract Strabo, the geographer, was born (64/63-23? AD) in Amesia in Asia Minor. Today Amasia is called as Amasya in Anatolia. His book, the Geography, is an important ancient source for the toponomy of Anatolia. He described some parts of Asia Minor in his books XII to XIV. Historical conditions have changed since he wrote his book. As Anatolia is a very important peninsula like a cultural bridge between Europe and Asia, many ethnic groups of people have settled here or affected the culture of the region. At least Strabo’s Asia Minor has become Anatolia or Anadolu in Turkish. In addition to these, thousands of settlements were renamed in 1950 and 1960s. The programme for renaming the settlements also changed original Turkish names. Despite of all the changes in the history and the toponomy of Asia Minor-Anatolia, names of some settlements have survived and are still in use with little or no change in sound. In this paper, the toponomy of Strabo’s work and the toponomy of current Anatolia are compared and the unchanged or little changed place names are studied. Keywords: Asia Minor, Anatolia, Ancient Geography, Place Names. 1. Introduction Strabo the geographer was a native of Anatolia and a Greek citizen from Amasia in Pontus region.
