SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION Since the dawn of civilization, water has been the most important raw material for civilization. It is one of the vital sources of all kinds of life on the earth. Economically, culturally and biologically water is most useful natural resource on the earth. We use water for drinking, bathing, cooking, cooling, irrigation, transportation, energy power and recreation. Thus, water is nature's gift to the living world including human race. Our biosphere consists of 71 % of water out of which fresh water environment occupied only 2.6 %. For the usable purpose only 0.62 % water from lakes, streams, rivers and other resources are available for the living organisms. In India most of the cities, towns, villages and industries are situated at the bank of rivers and lakes. Due to uncontrolled population, the huge quantity of untreated sewage is being added everyday in these different water reservoirs. Besides these, industrial wastes, residues of insecticides, pesticides, excess agricultural fertilizers also added in these fresh water eco-systems causing pollution and creates health hazards. Present study is on the taxonomic data of algal specieswere collected from Station SI: Dimbhe Dam, It is located on Ghod River at Dimbhe 11 kms away from Ghodegaon in Ambegaon Tehsil. Station S2: Manikdoh Dam, It is located on Kukadi River at Manikdoh 7 kms away from Junnar in Junnar Tehsil. Station S3: Pimpalgaon Joge Dam, It is located on Pushpavati (Aar) River near Joge, at Nagar-Kalyan Highway in Junnar Tehsil. Station S4: Wadaj Dam, It is located on Meena River at Wadaj 5 kms away from Junnar in Junnar Tehsil Station S5: Yedgaon Dam, It is located on Kukadi River at Yeadgaon 10 kms away from Alephata in Junnar Tehsil. -

A similar alert has been sounded along the course of the west flowing rivers Krishna, Bhima and their tributaries. The High Deccan duricrusts of India and their significance for the ‘laterite’ issue Cliff D Ollier1 and Hetu C Sheth2,∗ 1School of Earth and Geographical Sciences, The University of Western Australia, Nedlands, W.A. 6009, Australia. 2Department of Earth Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Powai, Mumbai 400 076, India. ∗e-mail: [email protected] In the Deccan region of western India ferricrete duricrusts, usually described as laterites, cap some basalt summits east of the Western Ghats escarpment, basalts of the low-lying Konkan Plain to its west, as well as some sizeable isolated basalt plateaus rising from the Plain. The duricrusts are iron-cemented saprolite with vermiform hollows, but apart from that have little in common with the common descriptions of laterite. The classical laterite profile is not present. In particular there are no pisolitic concretions, no or minimal development of con- cretionary crust, and the pallid zone, commonly assumed to be typical of laterites, is absent. A relatively thin, non-indurated saprolite usually lies between the duricrust and fresh basalt. The duricrust resembles the classical laterite of Angadippuram in Kerala (southwestern India), but is much harder. The High Deccan duricrusts capping the basalt summits in the Western Ghats have been interpreted as residuals from a continuous (but now largely destroyed) laterite blan- ket that represents in situ transformation of the uppermost lavas, and thereby as marking the original top of the lava pile. But the unusual pattern of the duricrusts on the map and other evidence suggest instead that the duricrusts formed along a palaeoriver system, and are now in inverted relief. -

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Brief History: rd th PECT Survey for 3 & 4 Line between Pune-Lonavala was sanctioned in 1997 – 98 and report was submitted to Railway Board in 2001 at a total cost of Rs.322.44 cr. Further, RECT survey for only 3rd line was sanctioned by Railway Board in 2011-12 and the Survey Report was under scrutiny at HQ. The work for Third B. G. Line between Pune -Lonavala was sanctioned by Railway Board vide Pink Book Item no. 22 of Demand No. 16 under Doubling for the year 2015-16 at the cost of Rs. 800 crores. Detailed Project Report with feasibility study and detailed construction estimate for proposed third B.G. line was prepared by Central Railway at a total cost of Rs. 943.60 Crore. It was sanctioned by Railway Board vide letter No. 2015/W1/NER/DL/BSB-MBS-ALD dated 31.03.2016 under Gross Budgetary support. The work has been assigned to Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd (MRVC) vide Railway Board‟s letter No. 2015/W-1/Genl/Presentation/Pt dated 11.12.205. Hon‟ble Chief Minister of Government of Maharashtra vide his D.O. letter No. MRD-3315/CR44/UD-7 dated 23.02.2016 addressed to Hon‟ble Minister of Railways had requested for sanction of 3rd and 4th line between Pune – Lonavala to run suburban and main line train services. -

Keshavamurty (1978-85) (1986-92) (1992-96) INTRODUCTION The need to understand the mechanism of monsoon and other weather systems and climate related processes in the tropics took a concrete shape soon after the third World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) Congress in 1959 recommended the creation of meteorological research and training Institutes in the tropical countries. Acting on this recommendation, the Government of India established the Institute of Tropical Meteorology (ITM) on 17 November 1962, at Pune, as a distinct unit of the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Subsequently, ITM was made an autonomous research organisation and renamed as the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), on 1 April 1971. The Institute has, since then, grown into a leading research centre of international repute in various aspects of atmospheric sciences, particularly those concerning monsoons and tropical climate. With more than 100 scientists engaged in different research programmes devoted to tropical meteorology, the Institute is widely acclaimed to be one of its kind in the world. The work at the Institute, over the years, has been marked by significant achievements in research as well as physical development of the infrastructure including its campus. Meteorology and atmospheric sciences have seen tremendous research and development activities during the last few decades. -

The rubber dam concept is relatively new in construction technology in India. Rubber dam concept is application wise used in the specific cases where it may be prove to be alternative, very few countries are widely developed rubber dam like Australia , china, Japan. Rubber dam has many advantages from various aspects like Irrigation, water supply, flood control, groundwater recharge, electric generation in hilly areas and water storage. Due to simple sophisticated design and its construction time is less as compared to conventional dam construction. Rubber dam is a useful technology, which can control water in flexible way. It is important and priority in urban and rural sector not only for irrigation but also industrial and for daily use. Rubber dam can minimize the crisis of flood and maximize the proper use of available water resources. This paper aims to study different flood hazardous, dry areas where rubber dam can be used in Pune and also point out the general description of system various configuration and types, working principle and comparative analysis between rubber dam and conventional dam.
