Metamorfik Alan- ya Masifinin bir nap şeklinde Sedre Triyas'mm üzerine geldiği ve bunun da bir tektonik pencere olarak görüldüğü görü- şüne varılmıştır. Hadimopanella oezgueli n. gen. n. sp. (incertae sedis) ve üç yeni konodont türü bulunmuştur. ABSTRACT: in the area studied Cambrian to Triassie systems are distinguished by the use of conodonts and their fauna is deseribed briefly. it is believed that the metamorphic Alanya massif overlays the Sedre Triassie as a nappe, forming a teetonic window. Th e Perth Limestone Member of the Staunton Formation in the southeastern part of the Illinois Basin co nsists ofargill aceous limestone s that are in a facies relati on ship with shales and sandstones that commonly are ca lcareous and fossiliferous. Th e Perth conodo nts are do minated by Idiognathodus incurvus. Hindeodus minutus and Neognathodu s bothrops eac h comprises slightly less than 10% of the fauna. The age assigned to the Kinney Brick Quarry (early-middle Virgilian) has long been based more on its inferred lithostratigraphic position than on biostratigraphic indicators at the quarry. We have developed three datasets —-stratigraphic position, fusulinids and conodonts— that in- dicate the Kinney Brick Quarry is older, of middle Missourian (Kasimovian) age. -

Pfefferkorn2 ABSTRACT The Spencer Farm Flora is a compression-impression flora of early Pennsylvanian age (Namurian B, or possibly Namurian C) from Brown County, west-central Illinois. The plant fossils occur in argillaceous siltstones and sand- stones of the Caseyville Formation that were deposited in a ravine eroded in Mississippian carbonate rocks. The plant-bearing beds are the oldest deposits of Pennsylva- nian age yet discovered in Illinois. They were formed be- fore extensive Pennsylvanian coal swamps developed. The flora consists of 29 species and a few prob- lematical forms. It represents an unusual biofacies, in which the generally rare genera Megalopteris, Lesleya, Palaeopteridium, and Lacoea are quite common. Noegger- athiales, which are seldom present in roof-shale floras, make up over 20 percent of the specimens. The Spencer Farm Flora is an extrabasinal (= "upland1') flora that was grow- ing on the calcareous soils in the vicinity of the ravine in which they were deposited. It is suggested here that the Noeggerathiales may belong to the Progymnosperms and that Noeggerathialian cones might be derived from Archaeopteris-like fructifica- tions. The cone genus Lacoea is intermediate between Noeggerathiostrobus and Discini tes in its morphology. Two new species, Lesleya cheimarosa and Rhodeop- teridi urn phillipsii , are described, and Gulpenia limbur- gensis is reported from North America for the first time. INTRODUCTION The Spencer Farm Flora (table 1) differs from other Pennsylvanian floras of the Illinois Basin. GOREVA 2 1 Department of Paleontology, Geological Faculty, Moscow State University, Russia, email: aaleks@geol. msu.ru; 2 Geological institute of Russian Academy of Science, Moscow, Russia, email: [email protected] Abstract—The Moscovian Stage constitutes the Middle Pennsylvanian Series of the Carboniferous System, but a biostratigraphic marker and GSSP for it have not yet been designated. The exact position of the Moscovian boundary cannot be defined properly because in the type area the basal Vereian unconformably overlies the Mississippian limestone or the alluvial and lagoonal Aza Formation of the uppermost Bashkirian. The Task Group to establish a GSSP close to the existing Bashkirian-Moscovian boundary suggested several potential markers among foraminifers and conodonts, but the search for a marker near traditional base of the global Moscovian Stage has stalled. It may be more productive to search for FADs in the lower Moscovian, above the traditional base, to designate the lower boundary of the stage. Relatively rich Vereian and Kashirian conodont assemblages have been recovered from the southwest Moscow Basin, as well as from the Oka-Tsna Swell. The most complete information on the distribution of conodonts in the Vereian- Kashirian boundary interval was obtained from the Yambirno section (Oka-Tsna Swell). The greatest change in conodont assemblages does not occur near the level of the traditional base of the Moscovian, but stratigraphically higher. -

The study material comprises leaves fragments The record of the genus Rubidgea in Brazil was first preserved as impressions, previously included in the morphogenus mentioned by Cazzulo-Klepzig et al. (1980) for the Itararé Rubidgea because of their supposed gangamopterid venation pattern, Group of the Rio Grande do Sul state, and it is represented lacking anastomoses. However, re-evaluation of this material showed by a specimen classified as Rubidgea sp. Later, Rubidgea that these leaves bear at some degree, rare anastomoses along the lamina. Based on this observation, we proposed that these leaves obovata Maithy (1965) and Rubidgea lanceolatus Maithy should be transferred to the morphogenus Gangamopteris, which (1965) were illustrated and reported for the outcrops displays this type of venation. -

WAGNER * ABSTRACT: The history is traced of the various chronostratigraphic units recognised in the Upper Carboniferous of western Europe, and their stratotypes are discussed. A correlation is given for the chronostratigraphic units in the Middle and Upper Carboniferou& series of Russia, in the light of pre dominantly marine successions in N.W. Spain, and suggestions are made for an integrated scheme of major units.
