Strong, fierce, unpredictable and inclement. These are just some words to describe “the spirit of the southern wind”. For centuries this wind has put innumerable adventurers to the test and only those capable of confronting the wind were able to learn a little about the mysteries that are still hidden in this beautiful corner of the planet. The majority of those explorers who set off from distant lands were unsuccessful in their attempts. -

Postcolonial Colonialism and State Making in Patagonia. Argentina and Chile, 1840s-1922. by Alberto Harambour - Ross Doctor of Philosophy in History Stony Brook University 2012 Analyzing the processes of Argentinean and Chilean colonization of southern Patagonia, a territory that remained unsettled by European powers, this dissertation seeks to understand ‘frontier expansion’ as part of a world-wide imperial impulse in late 19th century. Based on metropolitan and local archival work, this dissertation develops a transnational as well as a comparative approach to the regional formation of those States, by following the flow of people and capital to Patagonia. -

Antarctica) Ensambles Bentónicos De Arrecifes Rocosos En El Estrecho De Magallanes E Islas Shetland Del Sur (Antártica)
Revista de Biología Marina y Oceanografía Vol. 46, Nº2: 177-188, agosto 2011 Article Rocky reef benthic assemblages in the Magellan Strait and the South Shetland Islands (Antarctica) Ensambles bentónicos de arrecifes rocosos en el Estrecho de Magallanes e Islas Shetland del Sur (Antártica) Emma M. Newcombe1 and César A. Cárdenas1,2 1Fundación Centro de Estudios del Cuaternario, Fuego-Patagonia y Antártica (CEQUA), Avenida Bulnes 01890, Punta Arenas, Chile. [email protected] 2School of Biological Sciences, Victoria University of Wellington, P.O. Box 600, Wellington, New Zealand.
