    Bend It Like Beckham Movie Info (2002) An independent-minded young woman discovers the joys of football, much to her family's chagrin, in this upbeat British comedy drama. Jess Bhamra (Parminder Nagra) is an 18-year-old growing up in West London, where her family has taken every effort to stay in touch with its Indian heritage. Jess' father and mother (Anupam Kher and Shaheen Khan) are after their daughter to go to law school, learn to cook a traditional Indian dinner, and settle down with a nice Indian boy -- the latter of which is high on the agenda of her older sister Pinky (Archie Panjabi), who is soon to wed her longtime beau Teetu (Kulvinder Ghir). However, her family is unaware that Jess has a secret passion -- football (or soccer, as it's known in North America). While Jess' enthusiasm for football star David Beckham is obvious, given the fact his photos cover the walls of her room, her parents don't know that in her spare time she likes to play a friendly game in the park with some of the boys in the neighborhood. One day, while Jess and her pals kick the ball around, she meets Jules (Keira Knightley), who is quite impressed with Jess' skills. Bollywood, come viene ormai universalmente chiamato il cinema indiano (con riferimento alla mecca del cinema statunitense e ai mitici studi cinematografici con sede a Bombay), è una realtà industriale quasi centenaria, la maggiore al mondo (ancor prima di Hollywood e dello Studio Misr del Cairo), provvista di 11.000 sale e di un proprio star-system, dove attori e attrici sono in primo luogo cantanti famosi, se non leggendari, in tutta la nazione. La sua portata economica e la sua forza comunicativa non lasciano indifferente neanche gli Stati Uniti. Città come Bombay, Calcutta, Madras diventano su pellicola lo scenario ideale per storie in cui la realtà locale delle campagne, le tradizioni e le tante leggende del passato vengono riformulate secondo un’ottica urbana e moderna. In questa sede non ci addentreremo oltre nel cinema indiano. Basti dire che, dopo alcuni anni di crisi, il cinema indiano sta conoscendo ora una nuova rinascita accompagnata dal successo internazionale cui accennavamo sopra. In Italia, si sono fatti conoscere soprattutto i film di Mira Nair1 (Monsoon Wedding, Vanity Fair) e di Gurinder Chadha (Sognando Bechkam, Matrimoni e Pregiudizi), mentre il resto del continente-cinema indiano resta in gran parte ignoto al grande pubblico.

    MATT DUNKLEY - Composer & Orchestrator Matt’s second feature was the Anglo-Belgian action thriller, Storm Force 10, about Special Forces that received its premiere at The Ghent Film Festival. His first was his score for The Four Musketeers, an Anglo-French movie directed by Pierre Aknine. His tv credits include the BBC 2010 10-part series Spirit Warriors; No 13, directed by John East for BBC 3; the BBC’s 6 part comedy drama series Rescue Me, for Tiger Aspect; he also arranged and produced the title song which was released on East West Records. He composed the music for ITV’s I Saw You, starring Fay Ripley; and the scores for the BAFTA-nominated ITV drama Safe as Houses starring Ricky Tomlinson and the Bafta award-winning pilot for I Saw You.
