DAVID BOWIE Nothing Has Changed Single „Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime)“ erscheint in limitierter Auflage als 10“‐Vinyl und zum Download am 14. November! Die definitive BOWIE‐Sammlung Nothing Has Changed kommt am gleichen Datum als 3CD, 2CD, Doppel‐Vinyl‐Album und Digitaler Download mit jeweils eigenem Artwork! Zum ersten Mal gibt es eine definitive BOWIE-Songsammlung, welche die Jahre von 1964-2014 umfasst. Fast 60 Songs enthält die 3CD-Deluxe Edition von Nothing Has Changed, die mit der Single Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime) einen brandneuen BOWIE-Song präsentiert, der am 14. November über Parlophone erscheint! Sue wurde in diesem Sommer mit dem Maria Schneider Orchestra aufgenommen und von BOWIE selbst und seinem langjährigen Partner Tony Visconti produziert. Maria Schneider, die auch das Arrangement des Songs übernommen hat, ist Bandleaderin einer der besten Big Bands der USA und wurde bereits mit mehreren Grammys ausgezeichnet. Auf Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime) sind überdies Donny McCaslin als Solo- Tenorsaxophonist und Ryan Keberle als Solo-Posaunist zu hören. BOWIE schrieb den Text für Sue und arbeitete für die Komposition der Musik eng mit Maria Schneider zusammen. Das Artwork der großen Compilation Nothing Has Changed stammt von Jonathan Barnbrook, der auch die Coverdesigns der Alben The Next Day, Heathen und Reality entwarf. Jedes Format – 3CD, 2CD, Doppel-Vinyl und Download – ist jeweils mit einer eigenen Optik ausgestattet. Barnbrook: „Jedes Format hat ein anderes Bild. Das verbindende Motiv ist ein Foto von Bowie, der in einen Spiegel blickt. Ich suchte nach einem Motiv, das stark genug ist, ein ‚Archetypus‘ zu sein. Es sollte eine sofort erkennbare Verbindung schaffen, die deutlich macht, dass Nothing Has Changed eine Kollektion von Songs ist, die die Erfahrungen eines ganzen Lebens einer Person widerspiegelt – also viel mehr als ein spezifisches Konzept oder nur eine bestimmte Zeitperiode betrifft, wie es die meisten anderen Alben tun.“ Nothing Has Changed ist die größte und umfassendste Sammlung an BOWIE-Songs, die je veröffentlicht wurde. Let Me Sleep Beside You wurde erstmals 1970 auf dem Album The World Of David Bowie veröffentlicht. Im Jahr 2000 wurde es für das unveröffentlicht gebliebene Album Toy neu aufgenommen und verschwand bis Nothing Has Changed im Archiv. Shadow Man ist ein legendäres, aber bisher unveröffentlichtes Outtake aus dem Jahr 1971. Die Version auf Nothing Has Changed wurde ebenfalls für Toy neu aufgenommen. Life On Mars? (2003 Ken Scott Mix). Diese Version erschien bisher nur auf der 40th Anniversary 7-Zoll Picture Disc. Hier zum ersten Mal auf CD erhältlich. Im Rahmen der überaus erfolgreichen Ausstellung David Bowie Is, die im Victoria and Albert Museum in London gezeigt wurde und anschließend auch im Berliner Martin- Gropius-Bau zu bewundern war, wurde ein Film mit dem gleichen Titel gedreht, der in Kürze weltweit in die Kinos kommt. Kopestonsky University of Tennessee, Knoxville ABSTRACT Students often struggle to interpret Latin poetry. To combat the confusion, teachers can turn to a modern parallel (pop music) to assist their students in understanding ancient verse. Pop music is very familiar to most students, and they already trans- late its meaning unconsciously. Building upon what students already know, teach- ers can reframe their approach to poetry in a way that is more effective. This essay shows how to present the concept of meter (dactylic hexameter and elegy) and scansion using contemporary pop music, considers the notion of the constructed persona utilizing a modern musician, Taylor Swift, and then addresses the pattern of the love affair in Latin poetry and Taylor Swift’s music. To illustrate this ap- proach to connecting ancient poetry with modern music, the lyrics and music video from one song, Taylor Swift’s Blank Space (2014), are analyzed and compared to poems by Catullus. Finally, this essay offers instructions on how to create an as- signment employing pop music as a tool to teach poetry — a comparative analysis between a modern song and Latin poetry in the original or in translation.
