What a Great National Day of Prayer! by John Fisco

The fi rst Thursday of May is always the NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER and the Christian Courier Newspaper sponsors the Governor’s Prayer Breakfast every year of this day. Needless to say, it was another ban- ner day - with a full house in attendance, the Governor spoke from his heart and expressed himself and his personal feelings and expe- riences spiritually. A great line-up of program participants, and one was exceptional being Ken Sweet, 94 years old and told of seeing the fi rst bomb being dropped on Pearl Harbor. He received a great stand- ing ovation. And, so did our guest speaker Charlie Linville and his experiences in Iraq and being an amputee and scaling Mt. Everest. Comments after the event were more like “speechless” - “unbeliev- able”, etc.

We believe God really gave faith to a generation of those that were there or that watched it. When you see something that was bigger than you anticipated, it raises your perspective and you believe God can do anything. We hope to have future Together gatherings around the world.”

Recently, the husband and father-of-two released his latest book - Re- set: Jesus Changes Everything. In his book, the evangelist shares the timely message of “reset”, or the idea that through Jesus, everyone is given a second chance.

“Reset basically is a modern day expression of the Gospel,” Hall said. “I think it’s a way to communicate what Jesus has done and what He offers to a Biblically illiterate generation. It’s a language that makes sense to a culture that’s full of technology. ‘Reset’ means to clear the errors and to get it working for its created purpose.”

He added, “As it pertains to the Gospel, we believe that’s what Jesus offers - He offers a chance to deal with the errors that we all have - sin. We need that second chance, that new beginning, and that’s where Jesus comes in. He offers a supernatural reset.”

In a culture driven by perfectionism and Instagram likes, Hall be- lieves Millennials value authenticity more than ever before. That’s why, he says, it’s so important to return to the basics of the Gospel.

“Superfi cial Christianity is becoming less common - you have to be authentic,” he told GH. “They’re looking for something that’s not sugar-coated, they want to deal with real issues and struggles of life. If faith doesn’t address those things, it’s not a faith that’s worth div- ing into. There’s no desire to be part of a clique or club - they want a faith that matter and that matters in the way they live. We need to come back to that central message of hope, the idea that Jesus came to bring life and save people who are lost and hurting. Jesus is the answer.”

While research shows that Millennials are signifi cantly less religious than previous generations of young Americans, Hall said there’s nevertheless a strong interest in spirituality among young people - whether they’re in church or not.

“We’re seeing a real hunger among Millennials,” he said. “Unfortu- nately, a lot of kids associate Christianity with negatives, and so in- stead of thinking about Jesus, they think about politics and social issues and picket signs. It’s become a movement that’s defi ned by negatives and what we’re against as opposed to what Jesus is for. For Millennials, whether you come from a church background or not, May & June 2017 Page 5

“There were times when I thought the prom- ises of God just weren’t meant for us,” Lacey admitted. “But, looking back, I see how God walked with us the whole way and how He was fulfi lling His promises for us and for Christian. They didn’t always look like I wanted them to look; I would have chosen a totally different path for Christian.”

Only making matters worse were the hor- rible comments people would make to Lacey via social media. “When Christian was three months old, I had an acquaintance private message me on social media, and she told Page 6 May & June 2017

EVANGELICAL PASTORS, LEADERS JOIN CALL FOR CHRIS- TIANS TO MAKE 2017 ‘THE YEAR OF GOOD NEWS’

A cross-denominational group of some of America’s most infl uential Evangelical pastors and leaders has come together to call on Chris- tians to make 2017 “The Year of Good News.”

NRB member and Harvest Crusades Founder Greg Laurie, who devel- oped the motivational letter at the heart of the call, is joined by Billy Graham Evangelistic Association President , South- ern Baptist Convention President Steve Gaines, Family Talk Founder Dr. James Dobson, and Salem Radio Network Host Eric Metaxas, among others, in signing and publishing the letter urging American Christians to make 2017 the year they “share the message of Jesus with every- one they can at every opportu- nity they can.”

“In a time of bad news, distracting news, divisive news, disorderly news, and, sometimes, depressing news we – as Christians and as leaders – want to recommit ourselves to making sure that the Good News of Jesus cuts through it all,” states the letter.

Christians everywhere are invited to join the “Year of Good News” with the hashtag #YearOfGoodNews, and to add their names at goodnews.harvestamerica.com.

“We need a national miracle to heal our political, racial and cultural divisions, and that miracle is found in the power of Jesus to change our hearts,” state the Evangelical leaders. “Therefore, we commit to preach louder than our nation’s politics, and we aim to make the message of Jesus Christ transcend the monopoly of our media.” May & June 2017 Page 9

Watson knows a thing or two about fatherhood after having his fi rst child in 2008 with his wife, Kirsten, who he married in 2005. After being in the NFL for 13 years, Watson is now a veteran who team- mates can look to in the locker room for advice.

“My main goal is just to encourage guys really to prepare for father- hood and support the women who are having these babies,” he said. “While [The New Dad’s Playbook] is for the dads, it’s also to help the women out as well so they can receive some of the support they need through this process.”

There’s a good reason why Watson doesn’t take his role as a father lightly.
