Students in Grade K-4th grade had a SPOOKTACULAR time during some Halloween Stations in Physical Education class. Students had the chance to travel through ‘Spooky Street’ under a dark parachute with a strobe light, they got to do the ‘Monster Mash’ by overhand throwing yarns balls at different monsters, they tried to knock down ghosts by bowling in ‘Graveyard Bowling.’ Putting together a skeleton puzzle in ‘Rattle My Bones’ was awesome too, and so much more!

Enjoy some of these photos of students having fun and exercising in Physical Education Class.

October 23-31 was Red Ribbon Week, a time when students and educators across the country talk about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Recently it has expanded to also talk about the consequences of bully- ing. The Kewaunee Grade School counselors and teachers talked with students in their classrooms about drugs, alcohol and bully- ing. Students were then given the chance to take a pledge to be drug and bully free and sign their names on a board outside Mrs. Prucha’s office for all kids to see. Thank you to all of the students who took the pledge! Please continue to talk to your children about the physical, mental, and emotional consequences of using drugs and alcohol and participating in bullying behaviors. Thank you!

The Kewaunee High School FBLA chapter toured Seroogy’s Chocolates in De Pere, WBAY TV-2 in Bay as well as on Friday the 18th of October. Forty students had the oppor- tunity to discover how these businesses where run as each offered a behind the scenes tour. All students were given the honor of standing in front of the green screen at WBAY, were able to sit in the closed seats at the Packer Stadium and tasted the many candy samples offered at Seroogy’s. It was an educational yet fun filled day for KHS FBLA students.

FBLA Fall Leadership Lab

On October 8, Ben Kornowski, the FBLA Region III Vice President, along with five other freshmen/sophomore students who have leadership potential from Kewaunee High School attended Fall Leadership Lab hosted at the Raddison Paper Valley Hotel and Convention Center in Appleton. Each student and adviser that attended was given the opportunity to attend three workshops that present- ed information and provided activities in leadership, communication and teamwork. Kewaunee Students Participate in St. Norbert College Middle Level Honors Band Lynn Curry and Danielle Schroth HOLIDAY CONCERT Congratulations to the Kewaunee Middle and High School students who were nominated and played in the St. Norbert Middle Level Honors Band on November DATES 3. The students were first nominated by their director, and then went through an application process. St. Norbert College looked at the applications, decided on ANNOUNCED instrumentation needed, and selected only the best from hundreds of applications from all around Northeast Wisconsin. These students spent one day learning the music together and performed to an overcrowded audience that same afternoon. Throughout the day students participated in full band rehearsals and learned to work together as a cohesive unit. KHS Music Department Christmas Concert The conductors and clinicians that worked with them throughout the day were Dr. Danielle Schroth and Amy Smejkal Christopher Baumgartner, Dr. Dan Laing and Michael Knight, the director of bands at St. Norbert College. Kewaunee Music Department Updates Technology

The Kewaunee Music Department would like to thank the Build the Future Foundation for approving our request to update our technology and expand our current software subscription services. The music department purchased multiple iPads and expanded the number of Smart Music subscrip- tions available in the district. Instructors have been using the iPads for recorded video assessments and are working on incorporating Smart Music into our classrooms on a regular basis. Smart Music is a software program that evaluates the accuracy of student performance as it comes to notes and rhythms. The iPads have worked extremely well to record students and have opened up opportuni- ties for students to record themselves, reflect on their performance and improve on various musical skills. Through the use of iPads instructors have already seen an improvement in student aware- ness to their areas of different strengths and weaknesses and are certain it will continue to increase in the future. Thanks again, Build the Future Foundation!

Solo and Ensemble Festivals to be Hosted in Kewaunee School District

This year Kewaunee will be hosting the Middle and High School Level Solo and Ensembles. This is a huge undertaking and we will be in need of many volunteers to help with the event. Every year students put in a lot of work learning solos and small ensemble pieces of music, and get excited about the opportunity to perform their efforts in front of a judge for critique.

The Middle School Solo/Ensemble will be Saturday, February 22nd and the High School Solo/Ensemble will be Saturday, April 8th.

We have multiple volunteer positions available for individuals of all ages and ability levels. Below are some sample volunteer positions.

Door/Room Monitor Your duties are to ask for each student’s music and give it to the adjudicator, as well as to monitor the room entrance so that spectators and performers enter only between performances.

Information Center Your primary job is to greet guests and answer questions that they have about the festival. You will have site maps to offer spectators as well.

Runners Your duties are to pick up an empty envelope from the office and go to the door monitors at each site to receive full envelopes

Processors You will receive results from the runners. You will be checking these for accuracy of ratings and adjudica- tors signatures

Relief Your job is to provide temporary fills in for workers who wish to leave their post for a short period of time. Site monitors who wish to be relieved will call the office and ask to have someone sent to that site.

Concessions Your job is to run the sale of food and beverage. We will have a number of breakfast and lunch items for sale to performers and spectators.

If you are interested in volunteering please contact Danielle Schroth at [email protected] (388-2951, extension 148) or Lynn Curry at [email protected] (388-2458, extension 366).

Thanks for helping us host the best festival possible! REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING KEWAUNEE SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD ROOM AT HILLCREST SEPTEMBER 16, 2013 6:30 P.M. Closed Session 7:00 P.M.
