  • LMR 03 - Week 19 Destiny's Nephew
LMR 03 - Week 19 Destiny's Nephew If you didn't enjoy last week's Division Playoffs, you don't have a pulse. The action was so intense that it reminded the Look Man of, well, it was like no other week in NFL Playoff history. Sure there have been some great single games in the playoffs. Games like The Drive, The Fumble, The Catch, The Tuck, The Sea of Hands, the Immaculate Reception, Air Coryell vs. the Killer Bees, and The Freezer Bowl have captured our imagination. But never in the Look Man's memory, has every single Divisional Playoff game come down to a single possession to determine the outcome. Here are but a few of the Greatest Games in NFL playoff history: • 1972 NFC semis: Cowboys 30, 49ers 28 ... Staubach led 17-point 4th quarter at Candlestick vs. John (Jaws) Brodie • 1975 NFC semis: Cowboys 17, Vikings 14 … the first "Hail Mary" - Staubach to Drew Pearson • 1977 AFC semis: Raiders 37, Colts 31 (2 OT) .. The "Ghost to the Post," Stabler to Casper • 1986 AFC semis: Browns 23, Jets 20 (2 OT) … "The Bernie, Bernay Game", Kosar and the Browns score 10 points in the final 4 minutes, and win in OT. Kosar throws 64 times for 489 yards on the day. • 1989 AFC semis: Browns 34, Bills 30 … "Clay Day/Clay Day!" - LB Clay Matthews INT at 1- yard line with 3 seconds left seals it (included a pick by Felix Wright on Don Beebe that was miscalled) • 1998 NFL wild card: 49ers 30, Packers 27 ..

Welcome to Tennessee This collection contains 25 wonderful songs about the State of Tennessee. We’re going to bend the rules a little and begin by talking about a song that isn’t here because, the lyrics get us directly to two important points. Here are the opening words to Tennessee, a song written and recorded by Carl Perkins in 1955. Now there are folks who like to brag about where they came from But when they start that stuff I let ‘em be But it makes me feel like I want to brag some To know that I come from the state of Tennessee. Let’s give old Tennessee credit for music As they play it up in Nashville every day… Old Carl reminds us that most of the songs on each of these ‘State’ collections are really about bragging. The polite term is probably ‘regional pride.’ But you and I know it’s bragging, pure and simple. We know there’s lots of national pride among Americans, but never underestimate the feelings about one’s home state (or city, or neighborhood!) “Yeah, I’m an American and proud of it. But I’m also from Tennessee. And don’t you forget it!” Bragging is OK under some circumstances. Nobody likes to hear someone else go on about what he’s accomplished or how important he thinks he is. But if you want to raise the flag about where you were born or about your home town, most folks will cut you some slack. It’s not like you chose to be from Tennessee, and that little bit of arm’s length seems to give you permission to brag.

G Memorable, intimate musical setting featuring solo guitar accompaniment. G Features another legendary figure – singer/composer/musician Don Robertson. INFORMATION An established star with the hit singles Dark Moon and Mister Fire Eyes to her credit, Bonnie Guitar was also a veteran of deca- des of playing and singing in pop and country bands around the Pacific Northwest. For several sessions in 1959, Bonnie and her friend, songwriter and producer Don Robertson, holed up in RCA Victor’s Hollywood studios in an unusual experiment – recording Bonnie’s voice with solo guitar accompaniment. The repertoire ranged from stan- dards – some of which she’d been singing for years in clubs – to new originals, and a couple of Roberson’s own classics. Why were these tracks recorded? Bonnie says they were master sessions, though such informality was virtually unprecedented in 1959 (even Johnny Mathis’s 'Open Fire – Two Guitars' had a second guitar and a bass). Bonnie’s 'By The Fireside' includes 15 of the songs Bonnie and Don recorded back then, which are available here for the first time.

  • Introduction to Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant (Excerpts from Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide)
Introduction to Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant (Excerpts from Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide) Speedy West One of the greatest virtuosos that country music has ever produced, Speedy West bridged the western swing and rockabilly eras with eye-popping steel guitar. Besides contributing to literally thousands of country sessions, West cut many of his own instrumentals, as a solo act and with his guitarist partner Jimmy Bryant. Adept at boogie, blues, and Hawaiian ballads, West played with an infectious joy and daring improvisation that, at its most adventurous, could be downright experimental. It's doubtful whether anyone could collect all of Speedy's solos under one roof, but it was his sessions of the 1950s and early '60s -- especially those with Jimmy Bryant -- that found his genius at its most freewheeling and dazzling. Jimmy Bryant With steel guitar wizard Speedy West, guitarist Jimmy Bryant formed half of the hottest country guitar duo of the 1950s. With lightning speed and a jazz-fueled taste for improvisation and adventure, Bryant's boogies, polkas, and Western swing -- recorded with West and as a solo artist -- remain among the most exciting instrumental country recordings of all time. Bryant also waxed major contributions to the early recordings of singers like Tennessee Ernie Ford, Merrill Moore, Kay Starr, Billy May, and Ella Mae Morse, and has influenced country guitarists like Buck Owens, James Burton, and Albert Lee. While he enjoyed a career that spanned several decades, it was his sessions with Capitol Records in the early '50s that allowed him his fullest freedom to strut his stuff.

  • The Look Man Report 2006 Week XX: Ponies, and Bengals, and Bears, Oh My!
The Look Man Report 2006 Week XX: Ponies, and Bengals, and Bears, Oh My! “We’re not giving away any football players who could hurt us later. I don’t mind people thinking I’m stupid, but I don’t want to give them any proof.“ - Bum Phillips, Houston Oilers coach OPENING OA (Bum) Phillips is the football equivalent of Yogi Berra, and the above quotation could be just as applicable to Chowds head coach Bill Belichick. Dr. Evil narrowly missed a fourth championship after jettisoning LB Willie McGinest, WR Deion Branch and K Adam (Money) Vinatieri. On Sunday, the chickens came home to roost, as Money contributed to an incredible comeback win by the Indianapolis Ponies. As the 2006 NFL season makes its final turn, the Look Man is thrilled to have witnessed some incredible action. The Conference Championships were simply the crowning glory to a season that saw New Orleans rise from the ashes of a 3-13 season to nearly represent the NFC in the Bowl. The Ponies overcame the weight of expectations, becoming this season’s version of the Blitzburgh Stillers down the stretch. Chicago has parlayed a ball-hawking defense and streaky QB into a championship run in the weak NFC. New England nearly reclaimed its championship ways despite an injury depleted defense and a receiver challenged offense. It has been a season for the ages and Sunday did not disappoint. Meanwhile, the rest of the league keeps on turning. Cincinnati had its ninth player arrest of the season. Bill (Tuna) Parcells decided to promote Grecian Formula instead of coaching the melodrama in Allas (no D).
