We Are the RubberDucks On October 29, 2013, team-owner Ken Babby stood before a capacity audience at the Akron Civic Theater and announced that the team would be known henceforth as the Akron RubberDucks. In addition to being symbolic of the fun, family-friendly brand of entertainment offered by minor league baseball, the name also honors Akron’s long history as the “Rubber Capital of the World.” Brandiose Marketing of San Diego, California, designed the team logo, colors, and various marks and insignias. Please note that for print coverage, RubberDucks is spelled as one word with a capital “D”. In broadcast coverage, referring to the team as “the Ducks” is an acceptable variation of the team’s nickname.
