Lee, CSA Dec. 3rd 1865 Commander’s Report August 1, 2018 Greetings to Belo Camp, July was a busy month for the SCV. The National Convention was held in Franklin Tennessee and Paul C. Gramling, Jr. of Shreveport Louisiana was elected Commander in Chief. We look forward to his leadership. On Saturday, July 28 a ceremony was held at the Texas Civil War Museum for the presentation of the Confederate Medal of Honor for Sergeant George A. Branard. The Medal was awarded for his heroic service at Gettysburg on July 2, 1863 and will be on permanent display in the UDC portion of the Texas Civil War Museum. Many thanks to Mr. Ray Richey for establishing, sponsoring and endowing this wonderful museum depicting our history. Our regular monthly meeting planned for August 2 will feature Mr. Patrick R. Tarlton of Austin, Texas. Mr. Tarlton has been retained by the Texas Division of the SCV and will become a public relations consultant to bring our message to the public. Influencing public opinion a very important task. Please try to attend this meeting and learn of his plans and how we may assist in this effort. The battle to preserve our monuments, history and heritage continues. If you have not already done so, please be prepared to pay your dues to Adjutant Patterson at the meeting. The position of 1st. Belo Camp #49, SVC Dallas, Texas Chaplain’s Corner Who Gets the Credit? It has been said and often repeated that, "One man and God is a majority." This is true, since God alone is a majority. God has never needed great numbers to accomplish His purpose. Consider the story of Gideon as told in book of Judges, chapters six through eight. The land of Israel was being oppressed by great hordes of Midianites and Amalekites. Under God's direction, Gideon sent out a call to arms throughout Israel, but only 32,000 responded. God told Gideon that it was too many, and the number was reduced to 10,000. Again, God said it was too many and ultimately reduced Gideon's force to a mere 300 men. Gideon and his small band were victorious, and the vast army of the oppressors were totally destroyed. The point is, that without God 32,000 Israelite soldiers would not have been nearly enough. But with God, 300 was plenty. The reason for God's reduction of Gideon's army is explained in verse 2 of chapter 7. Simply: God wanted the credit for Gideon's victory. In his first letter to the church at Corinth, Paul writes, "God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty." (1 Cor. 1: 27b) Then in verse 29, he explains why: "That no flesh should glory in His presence." Again, God expects to receive credit for what He does. Today, the Sons of Confederate Veterans face many challenges. We are challenged to recruit and retain members. Something that should be a priority to each of us. We are challenged to carry out the Charge delivered to us by General S.D. Lee over a hundred years ago, which should be our defining characteristic. And this we will do. But like Gideon, we are confronted by great hordes of oppressors. There are many who would tarnish the memory of our brave and noble Confederate fathers and deny them their honor, and who would reduce our proud Southern heritage to a legacy of shame. And perhaps as Gideon, we may wonder how we can be successful against the determined forces that beset us. But, we can succeed if we put our faith and trust in God, and seek His guidance and direction. However, as God gives us strength, direction, and success, we must remember why we succeed. We must remember who gets the credit. In doing so we will prevail against our enemies, and say, as Paul said to the church in 1 Corinthians 15: 27: "Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory..." William Preston and the Revolutionary Settlement BY RICHARD OSBORN Patriot (1775-1778) Revolutions ultimately conclude with a large scale resolution in the major political, social, and economic issues raised by the upheaval. During the final two years of the American Revolution, William Preston struggled to anticipate and participate in the emerging American regime. For Preston, the American Revolution involved two challenges--Indians and Loyalists. The outcome of his struggles with both groups would help determine the results of the Revolution in Virginia. If Preston could keep the various Indian tribes subdued with minimal help from the rest of Virginia, then more Virginians would be free to join the American armies fighting the English. But if he was unsuccessful, Virginia would have to divert resources and manpower away from the broader colonial effort to its own protection. The other challenge represented an internal one. A large number of Loyalist neighbors continually tested Preston's abilities to forge a unified government on the frontier which could, in turn, challenge the Indians effectivel y and the British, if they brought the war to Virginia. In these struggles, he even had to prove he was a Patriot. Preston clearly placed his allegiance with the revolutionary movement when he joined with other freeholders from Fincastle County on January 20, 1775 to organize their local county committee in response to requests by the Continental Congress that such committees be established.

The purpose of the survey was to identify and assess possible structural damage that is present in the building. The building maintenance engineer, the mechanical engineers and the project architect were present during the survey. Procedure: All of the items identified in this report were obtained through a visual survey. Visually accessible areas of the building structure were surveyed in detail. Areas of the structure covered by existing architectural finishes were not observed since the structure could not be seen without causing damage to the existing finishes. Description: The existing building has three floor levels including a below grade basement level. The footprint of the original building is approximately 5,500 GSF per floor level. A three level addition totaling approximately 2,000 GSF per floor level was added to one of the longitudinal sides of the building providing an overall GSF area of 22,500 GSF. According to the existing structural drawings dated February, 1901, the primary floor structure of the building consists of 6-inch and 10-inch deep steel beams spaced at 4-foot 4-inches and 4-foot 9-inches on center which support a series of brick masonry arches.

Find this book: I can still remember the days when we sang ‘socialism is good, socialism is good, people are highly valued in a socialist country’ at primary school, and the shock at seeing some elders start private businesses. Shouldn’t urban people have dignified jobs either in a state-owned company or in the public sector – even if the work is cleaning the toilet? I also have a clear memory of the teacher in my primary school expressing his longing for the life of a teacher in Shenzhen who had a much higher salary (about 110 dollars per month), and his disdain mixed with complex feelings about what that teacher taught the students: studying for the purpose of earning money and marrying a beautiful wife, a personal life goal that valued money over the welfare of others.

    Platform of the Joint Opposition-Contents Leon Trotsky Platform of the Joint Opposition 1927 The on-line publication of this important document was originally accomplished in 1998 for the Trotsky Internet Archive (TIA). The version, printed originally in an edition by Pathfinder Press, was ordered by Pathfinder Press attorneys to be removed. Pathfinder Press was once a Trotskyist publishing company but has for many years been operated within the norms of a commercial publishing house that jealously guards it's copyrights, even to the detriment of the distribution of the documents it seeks to control. This occurred in the fall of 2000. The TIA was able to obtain another translation of a 1973 translation of The Platform of the Joint Opposition from Index Books, a socialist publisher in Britain that was only too happy to have the TIA distribute, for free over the Internet, this document.
